Rear wiper washer fluid leak - INSIDE the car

Is anyone aware of a fix to a leak INSIDE the car?

I have read a similar thread, where the fluid was leaking outside the car, when the washer isn't in use: http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/f43/rear-wiper-washer-fluid-leak-76915.html

Here's what happened...

Both the front and the rear squirters weren't putting out much fluid, so, thinking that my level was low, I filled the reservoir with 1 gallon+ of RainX wiper fluid. I then tried to use the rear squirter, only to find just a dribble of fluid coming out onto the window. I thought maybe it was the cold that froze things up, but when the weather warmed up, I got the same result - I tried and tried to no avail.

Then I got a low fluid indicator, with no fluid on the ground! What the...??

Over the next few days I smelled something strange when I got into the car, and couldn't figure out what was going on. Finally I opened up the hatch, lifted the cover, and what did I see but a pool of RainX fluid to the rear of the spare tire - INSIDE the car!

As I took the spare, the air compressor and the jack out, I found more and more fluid. The spongy material to the right of the jack (between two levels of metal) was soaked.

I'm not quite sure where to begin, but I'm not really interested in paying a dealer mechanic $99/hour to figure things out.

Help!

Not an uncommon fault if it is what I suspect, though I note you have a T3 and this applied certainly to T1 and T2 cars.

If you haven't upped the strength of the additive to prevent freezing in advance of adverse weather, then the washer fluid has possibly frozen in the roof lining.

You've then used the rear wash/wipe and on earlier cars there was connection that is somewhere just above and behind the rear seat backrest which can pop so each time you use the washer you fill the headlining.

A good dealer should know about this and on the older cars it takes about an hour for them to drop the headliner and remake a good connection.

There's no guarantee this is exactly the same on the T3 but then again the symptoms are similar.

For anyone else reading this, if you haven't already done so and winter temperatures are dropping, then up the strength of your washer additive NOW!

The problem has been found!

There is a connection (maybe a stop-valve?) right at the D pillar at the roof on the passenger side which came off. I'd be glad to send it to someone's phone for posting, because I don't know how to get it onto the forum from my phone.

The speculation is that the line froze, but I've had winter fluid in the lines, and pumped it through them, since summer.

Indeed the roof panel was discolored, though not wet. If anyone has any questions I'll be glad to answer them - and thanks for the suggestions received.

Thanks for your reply noobytoogy, but yes, the fluid I was using was -25 winter fluid, and it had been so for a number of months.

Also, the headliner is dry.

Now I'm really confused as to what is happening!
