Been having trouble with the rear passenger side door lock not unlocking some times. This is on a T2 model.
Any ideas please.

I had the opposite. Rear drivers(RHD - AU) would not lock. Wasted time stripping door apart and after putting back together, same problem. Then took rubber grommet off child lock area and saw a plastic lever getting stuck. 3 squirts of WD40 and wah la....good as new.

Not unlocking might be child lock related?

BhannafordI did both the locks on the T2 same problem.

First the T2 has a 9 pin blue plug on the lock rearmechanism all other VW’s seem to have 7 pins. The T2 lock is very hard tocome by second hand and about $450 new + fitting.

What I found was that the little motor in themechanism did not have enough power to unlock the door but enoughpower to lock it.

I bought a $150 Golf door mechanism and swappedthe motors and some of the plastic cogs & the worm screw, problemgone.

It is a finicky job. First get a Golf locklearn how to get it apart.

PM me if you want me to talk you through theprocess.

The mechanism is sealed, WD 40 will not get to theinternal parts.

Hi Warrenza

I’m about to do the rear passenger side door actuator swap out on an 07 7L Facelift T2.

Door card off, have the new actuator …. So, where is the access point to get bwtween the inner and out metal door skins to pull old one out and insert new?

Brent...I know you will....but check with Phillip re the Golf "fix". he may have access to some parts. I'm in the same boat...but have just been putting up with it the past few years. Happens with both doors...but, one won't unlock, and the other won't lock. Grrrrr.

I had a Golf Mk 5 with a dud actuator. The door would not open at all which made it impossible for me to take the inner lining off to access anything. In the end the dealer replaced the part and that required them to remove the outer skin of the door.

Just spent whole day fixing my T2 rear passenger door RHD. It wouldn't open from outside. Free fix but painful. There are a couple of nice vids on stoogetube. To cut long story short, whole door skins need to come off and the big motor inside actuator needed its commutator cleaned. Time for a beer.
