It should not be a problem. I did some off-roading on sand dunes and mountains with a BMW X5 4.4i with the sport pack which had some huge rims and low profile Michelin 4x4 tires. Even the 4.6is with its 20s was fine.
If you know what the terrain looks like, and would be sure that you won't damage the rims, then there really is no reason to worry. I've even used standard H/T road tires on another 4x4 on the same routes.
