Never mind the rattles - is the right oil in the engine?

Your old R5 must use VW505.01 or VW 506.01 spec oil to prevent premature camshaft lobe wear.

If you don't know for certain what's in the sump, change the oil and filter ASAP.

And read this thread to get up to speed on other known issues. It will.probably save you money.
