Anyone have experience rebuilding a rack on a t1 vr6, or even know if it's possible?
I blew something to do with my power steering, and I'm not sure what I blew yet. But I'm trying to price everything and see what my options are to fix it, once I figure out what it is that I blew.

I had a rack problem on another car which, after a bit of an argument too long to tell here, was replaced under warranty in the end.

However, whilst there was some doubt about who was going to pay I discovered there are specialist shops who rebuild racks pretty economically.

Ovr the years on here I don't recall anyone doing a DIY so perhaps Google for local rack rebuilders (keep the Safe search mode on though!).

I rebuild them if needed. If you don't have the proper tooling to re-hone shaft it could just leak again. I offer a lifetime warranty to original owner. Not worth the effort yourself.

Alright thanks guys, I really appreciate the replies. I'll look and see if someone local to me can rebuild it, because I rather not spend $900 on a new one if it's just a few blown seals.

$900 is cheap.

Mine was nigh on the equivalent of $2,000 and was being replaced for the second time in 30,000 miles (hence the argey-bargey with the warranty company and the dealer!).

I have them for half the cost but you'd have to send me your core when done.
