If you are towing a boat or a camper with your Touareg and, like me, are annoyed by knocking sound from behind due to loose fit of the receiver – when the road isn’t perfect or it is stop-and-go driving in the city or through a road construction area, then you might consider a solution which resolves this problem by using a very tight fit hitch receiver allowing for a noiseless ride. I am very pleased with the Softride QuietRide 2” Drop Aluminum Ball Mount equipped with Rapid Hitch 3662 Greaseless Hardball. The whole set is ~107$ on Amazon and it is really worth the money. I, however, did a slight modification to the hitch pin – the slit washer included in the set cuts against the side wall of the hitch removing paint thus allowing for quicker rusting. I’ve got a washer (3/4” size, but thinner than standard thickness) and what they call European spring washer (not sure of the size in mm also thin) instead of split washer. All this is from ACE Hardware and cost $1. Works like a charm. Anybody found different and/or a better solution?
