I’m getting a new set of wheels for my 2010 Touareg. My plan was to sell the OEM 19” wheels (along with the TMPS sensors)….so I bought a new set of aftermarket “Moresensor” sensors off of Amazon to go with the new wheels. They had good reviews….so I’m hoping they will work and be problem free.

I’ve been doing a little bit of research, and I’m having a hard time figuring out what I need to do to get the new sensors “programmed”. Some websites/forum posts say that I have to either take the car somewhere to have the new TMPS sensors programmed/calibrated, or buy an expensive programmer and do it myself. But I’ve seen other info saying that I just need to put the car into some sort of “learning” mode…..and it will auto-detect the new sensors and then after driving 5-10 miles, I’m good to go.
Can you guys give me some more info on the TPMS sensors….and what I need to do in order to get the new ones to work? Am I better off to pay a tire shop to pull the old tires off of the 19” OEM wheels so I can use the OEM sensors?

Thanks

The manufacturer of the product you're buying doesn't know? Aren't they the ones who say this is for your application?

Honestly, I haven't reached out to them to ask. I figured I would ask on here first.

This is what their site shows.........Not really sure what the RDK key is.

VOLKSWAGEN-2
Phaeton 2007-2011
Touareg 2 2008-2010
Pro Tips!!!
-Make sure all tires are inflated to door placard suggested.
-Be sure ALL other sensors are out of range of vehicle antenna, (10 ft range min).
-Disable all other WiFi/Bluetooth and electronic accessory devices**.
**Includes HID kits, car audio systems, navigation, back-up cameras, if NOT original equipment, these devices may cause RF disruption.
  1. Inflate all tires to pressure indicated on tire placard.
  2. Press VEHICLE button to access tire pressure control menu.
  3. Press the RDK key to enable tire pressure control.
  4. If equipped with sensor in spare wheel, select SPARE WHEEL MONITORING.
  5. Press NEW TARGET PRESSURES key. The current pressures can now be saved.

Why not just go with HUF non necessary to program TPMS sensors? On Ebay a full set is like $165 or so. Not bad for a sensor that'll last for ~7 years. That's what I did for both my Summer and Winter setup. Check the site below.

I just bought some stock VW wheels from ebay for my winter tires. If the set of sensors I bought doesn't work, I'll disable it since I have found I can. Never had it until the Treg, so I'm used to eyeing the tires as I walk around the vehicle and hit them with the gauge as I learn their loss rate. Some tires leak a little, some a little more, for various reasons.

And how is that painstaking, freezing-cold time consuming process better than simply hitting a single button inside your car and getting an instantaneous readout?

Hmm it MIGHT be different on the 2010, but in the far-right module (its called car or economy or whatever) click the bottom-most button on your wheel. It should allow you to monitor pre-set fill points but also live-read the pressure data. I monitor mine all the time - pressures drop in the cold, they explode in the heat, and if I'm 'offroading' at the local beach or whatever I live-monitor to make sure I don't blow a tire out

I checked everywhere I could look and I don't see live pressures. It is not in the 'economy" menu. That shows range, current/avg consumption, travel time, and a couple other things that aren't tire pressure. Settings shows lots of settings, but for Tire pressure, it only shows set points.

I'll check the "driving" menu (where mpg and the like are shown) and see if it is there. In the Settings, at the Tire pressure set point, all I can see is the set point.
OK, so while sitting in the driveway this afternoon waiting for my daughter come out, I was scrolling through the economy menu. There, in all its glory, was a Tire Pressure selection. How I missed it before, I have no idea. I am learning that you can see various things in each selection by using the scroll wheel, so maybe it wasn't set up just right when I went through the menu above it.

So anyway, I was able to see live pressures! Now to see if I can do it again tomorrow.

If anyone is curious, new TPMS sensors will work with the Touareg without any programming or coding. As long as they're the correct type, all you have to do is put the wheel on and drive.
So I'm about to purchase some 433 mhz and all I have to do is put them in the wheel and the will relearn them selves ..they are already come pre programmed
