did that oil come out of the transmission? if so take a coffee filter and run some through it and see if there is alot of tiny dark bits in it that almost look like sand. if it does then that would be your clutch pack facings.

the additive is only a bandaid that kind of mask the underlying issue most additives use either a friction enhancer, or it will change the viscosity of the oil to increase the pressure in the clutch packs and band pistons or both. I have never been a fan of the VW lifetime fill approach which is almost telling you sure drive the crud out of it you never have to change the oil and then you will have no idea your stuff is failing before it too late. Riiiiiight. no thank you. as for the metal you have is it like looking at metal flake that you find in paint or is the metal bigger than the ball of a ballpoint pen. if it is like metallic paint, that is normal wear, but again the lifetime fill attitude does you no favors. i am not sure if 8th gear is under a drum or a band control. the tremors for the most part would be slippage in either of those two. i remember way back years ago someone had put 10 weight TC-2 hydraulic oil in an Oldsmobile TH400 that was slipping bad and it lasted a long time. BUT! i am not in any way endorsing or recommending you do that. the additives i doubt will do any good you might get a little more life out of it but in the end, you are going to need new frictions and steels in the drum pack. once the tranny oil lose it viscosity it is downhill from there
