I recently added a Ram Mount X-Grip to a ProClip Center Mount, mounted to the dash and thought someone might be interested in the process.
Materials
Pro Clip Center Mount Touareg 2004-2010
Ram Mount Base
Ram Double Socket Arm
Ram X-Grip
#8-32 x 1.5 Stainless Steel Hex Drive Socket Cap Screws
I have had very good success with the X-Grip I have been utilizing on my motorcycle. My phone has remained secured during substantial off road riding and when my two-wheeled compatriot inevitability gets tired and decides to take a nap. I wanted to translate this to my Egg and also have the interoperability of transferring the X-Grip to the bike as an additional mounting point when necessary and be able to use other Ram mountable products as required. For this project I used all composite Ram products to keep the weight of the system down.
The ProClip system uses the same AMPS standard mounting hole pattern as the Ram Mount Base. All that was required was to drill out the factory holes on the ProClip to match the hardware diameter. I used Stainless Steel Hex Drive Socket Screws from Home Depot with a stainless washer and a stainless nylon lock nut for each bolt. The length of the screws was proud for my application because the thickness of the Ram Base and ProClip wasn't a standard size. With the long screw I was able to efficiently hold the screw in my vise while they were cut to size without damaging the threads I would be using. The short Double Socket Arm keeps the the phone close to the dash while allowing some movement. There isn't as much lateral rotation as I would like, but I'm in no way unhappy with with this setup. ProClip advertises the mount as being to the sides of the vents, but I did not want to block that much air coming from them. Mounted in it's present position, the entire system is very secure with no shakes or rattles.
