Plasti Dipped grille and side strips

I did not like the chrome strips down the side or the chrome and silver grille on white Touareg. I put 5 coats of black Plasti Dip and 2 coats of Glossifier on and the transformation is incredible. Plus, the whole thing is 100% reversible. Now I need to the chrome trim around the windows.

That's the nice thing about plasti dip, you just rub the overspray off with a microfibre cloth. The tape is more so you can pull up the plasti dip from the paint and peel it to the edge you want it to cut off at. You actually place the tape about an inch from that edge and spray onto the adjoining surface. It just peels off and "cuts" at the edge of the grille.

Look at the first picture, you can see about an inch of white along the sides of the grille. These get sprayed too and then peeled.

Roof rails next as well then . . .

I'll probably do them too. I was going to do the chrome plate by the tailgate, but may get scratched up with the dog jumping in and out of the hatch. Wouldn't hurt to try - just peel it off if it gets scratched.

I'll have to wait until I get back from road trip to BC.

When you pull up the tape, the plasti dip sticks to it. You grab the plasti dip and stretch it until it cuts off at the edge. I suggest watching some YouTube videos on the process.

HI Everyone. This is my first post....so be nice ok? No seriously, I bought my 14 TDi last year. Just a week ago I picked it up from Dipping Unlimited in Kirkland, WA. I am quite pleased with the results. As soon as I figure out how to post pics I will send one. I agree that it is a fairly "affordable" way to try out a "new look" for the car. Worst case scenario, if you don't like it....peel it off.

What wheels are those? They look very similar to the OZ rims I put on my wife's Golf.

The mesh grille looks nice!
