Oil Consumption Norms

I am 1,000 miles away from my 30k service and here is the photo of my current oil level. I would say this has been "normal" for my vehicle. However, I wanted to get people's take to see if it indeed is "normal" oil consumption. Is the engine consuming too much oil?

Every engine is different. My 2.0L TDI in my Jetta didn't consume anything at all. Oil level was full at every 10k oil change.

As long as you're nowhere near 1 quart every 1,200 miles, I wouldn't worry too much about it. VW probably won't do anything about it anyway unless you can prove something obvious, such as external oil leaks or turbo bearing leaking.
I have to take mine in to have the level sensor checked. Can't believe they didn't install a dip stick. A few weeks after my last routine maintenance I got a oil too high message. Happened twice then went away. Keeping my eye on the display over the next several months and noticed the level never moved. Then in the maker of a few minutes a oil low message followed by another then the level showed half full the back to full. Nice.

The sensor is checking to see if you were paying attention - lol. Get the dealer to replace the sensor.
I've had the check oil level warning twice recently. First time was in the beginning of December when I added about 0,4 liters, and the second time today morning, added half a liter of oil (5W-30).

I wrote down the mileages on paper on both occasions, and the result is half a liter of oil consumed for 4700 kilometers, or in other words, in the ballpark of 0,1 liters per 1000 kms.

Something to be worried about? Are there some known fault conditions that could cause excessive (but obviously not too drastic) oil consumption? These are the only two occasions I have seen the oil warning. Before that, normal service intervals have covered oil issues.
Had it checked

Took my Hybrid into the dealer to have the oil sensor checked. Pretty sure it's no different that the others... No codes found and they told me the reading is constant with the oil level. Warranty company cant' cover something they find no fault with.

Does the system have glitches and intermittent ghost warnings? Apparently it does. Maybe I'll just drain some oil out and see what the system report. Most likely I won't since my days of working on cars is over.
The 2 tdis I have had where ar halfway mark on the gauge. Never owned on more than 26k miles thoiugh
At 110k miles, last I checked I don't lose any oil between changes. Except when the dealer doesn't tighten the crush washer all the way and it starts leaking out of there. Happened to me last week. Did get a chance to make sure the level sender was working though.
Just confirmed my 16's usage. Uses one "tick" on the measurement chart every 1,000 miles or so.
New reply to older thread: Just to add data, my 2014 TDI uses more oil than any diesel Ive ever owned, trucks and tractors. But not out of line with what has been written here. Other than trying to track this, and still being flustered by not having a physical dipstick, I love this TDI.
So exactly how much oil does your car use?
Mine uses 1/2 quart every 3-4k. That’s not bad at all. And it’s been that way since I bought it with 30k miles.

So quit whining and add one if that's what you really want\need. It's NOT that hard.
