Hi All,

Just want to know if anyone can guide me with a problem on my Touareg V6 automatic 2007 model.

There is a video someone made which covers similar problems to mine but I cannot post the link here (yet). The solution for him was that there was corrosion on the wires at the drivers (LH) foot well.

I would like to know if anyone else had these problems and whether a similar solution was found. I need to make a decision what to do with the car and at the moment is seems the only option is the agents which is going to be pricey.

Summary of the problem:

Glow plug warning came on while driving home but before I reached home it went off.
Next morning there were no warnings but after about 15km the glow plug warning was back.
I reached my destination and turned the car off for about 2 hours. When I tried to start all sorts of warnings appeared e.g. Running Gear Fault, Bending Lights warning etc.
When I try start, the engine does not turn at all and a message appears that the brake is not depressed but obviously I am pressing on the brake.

Seems like something is wrong with the the electronics all of a sudden. The message that came up when my mechanic had a look was something about "ECU shutting down" or along those lines.

Any help will be appreciated.

Get your mechanic to look at the video and then inspect your wiring (which is a known issue) and is not rocket science to fix.

Here is some quick info on the defective factory splice in the brown canbus wire issue.

When you have multiple errors between multiple modules in a T1 (2004-2007 model), check the wiring harness for a defective factory splice in a brown wire near the drivers door.

This is the wire that is usually defective due to a bad factory splice.

Some progress

We managed to check all the wiring and found 1 splice that had to be redone. That was fixed and then a relay which did not have a casing was also replaced.

It looked like we were making progress because the car started but after putting everything back there is still a problem. When we disconnect the battery and then connect again we can get the car to start but then the glow plug light will come on again and when turning off the car it wont start again.

The error seems to refer to a fault on the ecu. So seems like I will need to replace the ecu after all.

Does anyone know where I can get an ecu or should I rather go to the dealers? It is just that in South Africa they are pricey and I am think perhaps I can import one cheaper than purchasing it locally.

Any suggestions?

Below is information relating to the current issue with the car:

Thank you for coming back and telling us the outcome. Far too many people don't!

You say you replaced the ECU with a used one. Was this just a straight swap? Or were there any complications you had to overcome?

ECU Replaced

They tell me it was a straight swap.

We did not do the coding and locking of the ecu yet but it is working fine just as it is.
