My egg will no idle for more than 30 seconds when "cold" starting it dies. Its weird because when starting from cold cold overnight and below zero it idles fine. But when ambient temperatures are above 0 degrees C it will die on idle and at stops until it is driven on the highway for some time. After driving the highway for 20-30 mins it can idle for hours no problem. I have changed the PCV valve recently, vacuum leaks have been fixed, the engine speed sensor was done I swapped it with a wrecker part as it had a code but after replacing it went away mind you there is still a CAM code on the car as seen below. I have also taken the 404 relay out and idled the car but it still died the sound when opening the door I did not hear when this happened today but it could be because it was running for a while. I measured groups 208 and 209 for the chain as I was curious about the stretch, 208 shows a perfect -10 and 209 does not show any reading as seen in photos. Any ideas? It is currently at the mechanics now he will look at it again for me, we also tried switching in the old speed sensor as I left it hanging there and the P1340 came back and it still did not idle, he still thinks its the engine speed sensor but with the wrecker part in there the code P1340 was not there anymore... We will swap in a new one this week but I want to pick your guys brains for other ideas before hand. I also want to know why 208 is showing a perfect -10 and 209 nothing likely because the G28 sensor is bad?

Here are the codes:

The first thing I'd suggest, is to tell people what year and engine so that they don't have to decipher it from your VIN and scan.
The second thing I'd suggest is checking your timing before anything further.
The codes indicate that the cams are out of timing.
Does it run good when it runs? Or is it lacking power\response?

3.2L '05 and yes it runs well not rough and drives good imo no chain noise either once it warmed up.

Then log your cam sensor values as it appears one is flaky at best, and the other is just dead.
If you want a Mickey Mouse solution to making it idle when not "cold cold", unplug your CTS to trick it into thinking it's colder than it is.

But I am going to do a visual chain inspection, to be honest likely going to just pull the trigger on the job and get it don't it's low Kms too 197k kms body is in amazing shape and have taken care of it so it's worth it imo. Just had the valve body done with Sonex valves wiring has been repaired along with water ingress (besides wiring under roof liner in the boot) so. Any advise when picking a shop? Also parts should we got with genuine VW chains/tensioner or is there an upgraded option that might be a little better with wear considering the age of the vehicle.

I appreciate the advise with that and yeah my thoughts were the sensors need to be done for sure so I can get a good reading of the chain and actually determine where it's at.

Mechanical timing can't be off if you don't have lack of output and such.
You could do a compression test to quickly validate that timing is still good, without having to take anything apart.

Advise for picking a shop? Sure, pick one with a good reputation. I avoid them like the plague, which is what forces me to learn a lot and to attempt to fix\maintain everything myself, especially when dealing with an older vehicle.

Buddy I feel you there I have been screwed by every single shop yet. I told the guy that owns this shop do the speed sensor then I can scan the car and determine the chain myself as you said. Do you have any resources on how I can do that I just got the VCDS cable a couple weeks ago and haven't had time to look into it too much.

This was solved today, mechanic has replaced it with a new speed sensor. I have him leaving it in the shop overnight and going to idle again tomorrow. I will run some scans in regards to the chain stretch as soon as I can
