Hi, I purchased a 2004 2.5 R5 with 108k miles on last weekend. Moved on from my old Range Rover. I am pretty handy with the spanners I have purchased the icarsoft i908 diagnostics which arrived today. Seems pretty useful not had to fall back on it yet! So far I am loving the old bus! Couple of small issues one being worn alternator coupler and a blown front sidelight bulb!

Look forward to getting better acquainted with fellow owners!

Cheers

If you haven't seen it, do read the buying a used Touareg thread - the link is in my signature.

If you know about the alternator coupler you know there are two parts to it and you replace both? You should also look at changing the aircon coupler/clutch too.

Do change the ATF if auto, gearbox oil if manual, front and rear diff oil, and also the transfer box oil which you get from the VW dealer in the correct 850ml bottle.

Most important of all make 1,000% sure you have EXACTLY the right oil in the engine to avoid premature camshaft lobe wear - even VW dealers put the wrong stuff in! Any doubt at all, change it and the filter.

Changing light bulbs - front:

You'd be much better off getting the Ross-Tech VCDS. If you are comfortable using diagnostics and want to tweak things as well it is the ONLY system any Touareg owner should have.
