I just bought the 2005 Touareg V6 and love it. I have owned Jeeps for the past 20+ years and thought I would venture out and try something different. I researched for a couple of months before deciding on the Touareg. I have to drive up the canyons a lot in the winter and needed something reliable in the snow. It proved well the other day when it snowed and there is one steep hill where there was a couple of cars having trouble getting up. I was able to pass them (safely) with no problem. I am now convinced that I made the right choice.
I have been reading a lot of threads and am a bit concerned on how many issues the Touareg have. I hope these are isolated and I don't encounter many. I am glad I found this website to refer to.
Glad to be part of the group!

Get the right tires on it and you will have no problems traveling any of the canyons out there. I had not issues in my gas 04 or my 10 TDI when I was living there. I have always felt it is the best winter vehicle I have ever owned and it never left me down in the winter out there.

What is stopping you? You should live where work and life and family make you happy. What's PA got over UT, besides snow and humidity?

Hi and welcome to the gang. We share the same model year and engine size. You won't be disappointed with performance. Maintenance is costly but similar to other SUVs in its class so don't be scarred. Major repairs owing to malfunctions vary from user to user and don't affect everyone but extended warranties help in this arena, so find one and breathe easier if something serious happens. Proper maintenance will ensure your car is running for many years, and knowing the car history is a key part of its longetvity.

I have a winter home in the Ogden Valley and the canyon roads getting there can be pretty nasty in the winter time. You made a good choice buying a Touareg.

I've lived in Salt Lake my whole live and have loved the outdoors from the high mountains to the southern desert. I can't wait to take my Touareg to Moab this spring and try it out down there. Hope you can make it back. It is a nice place to live even though I'm not part of the local clan. I'll send pictures once I figure out how.

Neither am I. We really enjoy the outdoors and the cost of living is much less in Utah than it is here.

I'd like yo see some pics of your Touareg in the snow!

I wasn't part of the owners if the state either, just lived there for the skiing and everything else. Hell, the beer was even getting better. I so miss Epic Brewing!!

I've had some darn fine IPA's in CO, Avery, Oskar Blues, Titan come to mind, but I was not aware that UT was up and coming. Had some IPA at Moab Brewco a few weeks back, and being used to the West Coast hophead style, it just tasted like it came up a little bit short... but the brewers in Moab, hopefully, they'll get there. Or maybe not, regional tastes vary.

You all would be surprised on the advancement of beers here in the "beehive" state. Believe it or not but they did relax the alcohol laws a bit and BOOM! a bunch of bars and restaurants appeared. We have Wasatch brewing, Epic, Red Rock, Hoppers, Moab, and many more. They even have Brew festivals all over the city during the summers with real 6.2% and higher. My favorite is the Devastator made by Wasatch brewing co. If you are ever in SLC, you will need to go to the Bayou Restaurant. They have over 300 different beers from all over the world. I always go there when I need a good beer fix.

I live in Salt Lake Valley as well and couldn't be more pleased with my 2006 V8 touareg I purchased early last year. I even had performance tires during the first big storm in the month of December and it was handling itself in the morning commute incredibly (would not recommend, now equipped with Cooper Zeon LTZ's).

I look forward to any on-coming storms with glee.
