Looking for a new vehicle with moderate off-road capability and tow capacity for a 15' Hobie Powerskiff to take to Baja for Fishing and Surf trips. I have built several vehicles for this purpose including several full size trucks, mid-sized trucks and a Sprinter van. I have always been intrigued by the TDI Touregs and have been shopping for a T3 for several months. In preparation, I've spent many hours on this Forum education myself and geeking out on builds.

Anyway, I wanted to introduce myself and thank everyone here for all the invaluable information they contribute.
Currently looking at several low mileage 2012-2014 T3's for sale locally. I'll keep you posted on my search...

Hi Alaska2baja
Welcome to Club Touareg.
good luck in your search. Touaregs have great off-road capabilities and towing capacity.
check to see if the hitch is OEM (7700 pound tow capacity) or an aftermarket (6000 pound tow capacity) and that the Tow Module and brake controller are installed.
I do extensive adventures with my Touareg and love the luxury ride.

Buy it beforehand so you can do a full scan on any prospective models before you buy. Just because a MIL isn't on doesn't mean there aren't soft codes stored, or issues with non-essential modules.

Hello and welcome to the forums.
Are you going to buy a Gasser or TDI?

100% agree with @PRY4SNO - get the Ross Tech VCDS now and use it to check Touaregs you are interested in. It takes a bit to learn to use properly. Also many adventurers opt to get a small laptop computer to tote in Touareg specifically for use of VCDS when needed.

Welcome! Sounds like the perfect vehicle for that… where in Baja are you typically going? Last I heard northern Baja has ULSD but southern might not (not sure).

My T2 is also mostly for offroad desert trips and boat towing. I’m going to do a Sea of Cortez sailing trip sometime soon and tow down with the Touareg. I’ve found with a light boat I can even do some towing on sand… and the front winch with remote control offers some extra launching options for shallow ramps.

Alaska Peninsula has best fishing - salmon and halibut! Love the peninsula! My Alaskan Native grandkids love fishing and hunting “the old ways”. I always eat well when my Touareg and I are in Alaska! But last summer sucked with all that rain.
I hear there is excessive snow this winter too.

Excessive? Maybe. Several roofs collapsed, but no deaths from that this year. then a long Chinook melted most of it. Back to more snow and cold. Attached shows why I believe in dedicated snow tires, despite those who think "all season tires" truly are. Hehe.
