New here, 2014 TDI execline R

Hi all, new here.
Here is the new to me Touareg 2014 TDI Execline with R line. Car is in very good condition and was completely stock when I got it. I live in Montreal


rear seats when I got it, now has 3 kid seats and monster mats.

First thing I did is to remove the original “fabric” mats with OEM monster mats front, rear and trunk.
Second thing was a Malone Stage 2 tune (keeping emission stuff). Next was the Start & stop button renewal, and when looking on how to do it I found the auto-hold function; so I just ordered the button.
I see some rockchip on the rocker, so I got mudgards for all 4 corners. Not sure yet if I will install the rear one as they are quite big and do not protect anything.

Coming next
H & R springs
20in wheels, maybe 15mm spacers. I don't think I would go over 20 as I like the tire sidewall on such vehicle.
Disable video in motion for the entertainment of the 3 kids on the back seat on longer haul
Gear display

I would like more power, but I don’t think the investment would be wise for the power gain (new turbo). I would like more compression braking, so most likely transmission tune eventually.

But it always come to the same: how much low end I am willing to trade. The answer is some, but not a ton.

It seems like even bearing conversion is available, definitely a pricy option. But I typically prefer to do things right and not twice...

You should do some logs and try to determine at what rpm and PRs your existing snail is a bottleneck if you really want to do it right, but that's only my opinion.
The CRCA engine in my treg has the 2260vzk stock. You guys get shafted in the states.
Based on my limited knowledge of turbos, you need a lot more info/data than just a frame size and compressor exducer if you want to re-engineer the system.

Also noteworthy is the fact that many of the powerplants which have a similar engine/displacement but make different power levels are significantly different in terms of other tech and components... It's not just their "better" turbo that makes all those differences.

All good. It's what is listed for the engine, but I did check before I posted that it had it. If op does a log from 1000rpm or so in 2nd or 3rd it would be interesting to see the difference to mine.

Yup.... I'd totally be all over that before I went ahead and swapped over only to realize that there's little to no difference.

The thing is, the 2260 is not mounted to my truck right now, so it is quite easy to work on.

I am not yet decided what I'll do. part of me what to slap the snail ASAP and enjoy the extra power. Part of me wants to do it properly and upgrade turbine/compressor + refresh (and balancing of course).

If I install the turbo as is, then I have to remove it; get a temporary tune (or flash back to 2056 tune), get it rebuild, then swap the turbo once more and get yet another tune; which won't likely happens. And honestly probably not worth it either. I mean, if I am not satisfied with the 2260 upgrading the same frame won't cut it.

I do not intend to "design" a new compressor wheel, just buy something someone else (re) designed. Turbine is obviously needed to get the power to the compressor. It all start with how much energy you can get from the exhaust, and how it can be transferred to the turbine to generate boost.

And now the biggest question is how much more power this "optimized" or modified turbo can make. Let's be generous and call 25%.
2260 is approx 40HP over 2056. 25% more is 10HP on top.

I know turbo is not all about max peak HP, spool time is also very important. But I cannot estimate the effect with my still limited knowledge.

I'd personally be much more interested in going to a GTD. People have modified them to bolt up to the 1.9 and 2.0s, so can't see why they couldn't put an appropriate rear housing on them to suit these things.
How did you determine that your current 2056 is the bottleneck? At what PR, rpm, flow rate does it become the bottleneck?

I expect the air delivery to be a "little" delay, but higher torque considering more CFM. So as soon as the boost hits, torque (hence HP) should be a little higher. Starting 1800RPM or so up to the top. basically an offset line, with a small delay on the very low range.
