I'll do the log soon. Flash is done, but didn't the chance to drive it enough (flash done when engine was warm). I don't expect a lot of changes on a warm engine anyway, maybe just a bit more compression braking.

The only reason I did the flash is the cold engine "high" rev ****, near 3k RPM on a cold engine is not a good feeling. Not worried about engine durability I as drive very gently on a cold engine, just really annoying.

Did the flash, engine crank but won't start. ****. Key was in the "ignition" and I guess I pushed the start button instead of turning the key. Tried again and it worked. fioouuuu

Then, auto-hold button didn't work. Shut down the engine, wait 10sec. Started like a charm, everything back to normal. Transmission was still in Cayenne mode, gear display active and all.

thanks @KatanoTDI for the job.

Drove the car for the first time when it was cold, I am VERY pleased to see that the high rev behavior is gone. Shift around 2k RPM on light throttle with cold engine instead of 2500-2800. Did not noticed other significant differences from the short drive.

I didn't pay enough attention on the 1-2 shift delay, I'll check later today. It was definitely present/annoying when using the shift paddle, there is almost a 1sec lag between the moment when you hit the paddle and the transmission shift. This was quite a contrast when comparing the DSG transmission from a Golf Alltrack. I have no other complain about the AISIN transmission.

I intend to do a log, but I am not sure when as my commute to get the kids only involves city driving (no highway). I am not sure with the cold like today (-11C) that the engine will reach operating temperature when I arrive at daycare! I'll have to keep an eye on the battery charge...

Not an exciting update
started the car, everything is fine. Put to drive and I get a rear adaptive fog fault. Weird. Stop to pick one kid, start the car front adaptive (fog or headlamp, forgot) fault when I put to drive. argggg

This was one of my concern buying a Touareg, filled with sensor so many things can go wrong. I'll plug VCDS when I get the chance and look into the problem.

It is quite cold today (-18C), maybe related. hopefully I won't get to many issues like that and it can be solved easily. Since there seems to be an issue at front and back, most likely a connector or module that is acting up.

wierd issue, intermittent.

One of the front fog is not working. When I got the car, I had a spare one that has been just replaced; it didn't appears to be broken. I suspect something wrong with a connector/wire/module. The front fog fault happens when I turn the fog on only; and at the same time I get a notification that I have front adaptive headlight issue. I just started the car and they move up, then inward then outward.

Yes one dead fog, which is pretty banal I know. But both fogs are 3 months old so it is quite annoying.

I noticed that the headlamps are moving when I put the car to D and they still do.
What I don't get is why I get an adaptive headlight fault when I still see them moving correctly; and the headlamp fault happens ONLY when I manually turn on the fogs. I typically never touch anything in regard to lights; set them in auto and forget them. They must be on the same circuit and one controller get a different voltage... but I would have expected than a fog issue wouldn't trouble the headlight!?

No the headlamps only move on startup (at least enough that I can see, I am sure there are more subtle movement when I drive).
The headlamp seems to work properly, but I get an adaptive headlight fault after I turn on the fog AND a defective fog fault.

You'll get a fault for adaptive headlights if you have a problem with one of the fog lamps because with adaptive headlights it uses the fog lamps when turning corners, or signaling to do so. They are all tied in. I disable all that with VCDS, except adaptive headlights.
Ha, makes sense thanks a lot!! for that. This is what I was looking for. So it might just be a defective fog/wire/connector
I could be retarded, but why are you turning on your fogs if you know you have a defective one? And even if you can somehow justify that, why are you surprised that you're getting errors\faults reported when you already know you have a failed component?
I am trying to see if I have one or more component failure. Since the fogs were new (3months old), I was wondering if some module or something that drives both component (fog and headlight) could cause the issue and not simply the fog. Having a headline adaptive fault, while seeing the headlight working properly, puzzled me. I am not yet familiar with all those systems

By how you write, I have the impression you are taking everyone else for dumb. I highly recommend this book, I'm sure you will appreciate.

Ah ok I got you. Do you know what brand bulbs were put in? Are they traditional halogen?
Whole fogs were replaced by the previous owner, not bulb. Oem VW

Very mixed feeling post.

I was under the impression that Bilstein only offers 3 shocks models (B4, B4S, B6) and not coilover. After a few post/exchanges in the handling thread I realized that Bilstein B12 (B8 struts with Eibach pro springs) ARE indeed available. I rushed to try to cancel my order from rockauto, clicked cancel on the first item (success) on my phone and THEN realise the other 3 struts were already shipped with the carrier. So, I just contacted them again to ask the carrier to return them to sender and hopefully only pay for shipping… and it is not possible.

Because there are quite significant savings shipping stuff in US rather than Canada, I still get some of my stuff on the other side of the border and a friend brings them over; so, I cannot simply refuse the package.

I understand the Bilstein B6/H & R combo isn’t bad; but the B12 is purposely made for lowered suspension. The B8 struts are a bit shorter and valve differently because of the reduced suspension travel. I would expect the B6 be a little bouncier than B8. Not the end of the world, especially since this is not a track car; but the B12 combo is about the same price; and for the same money, it will be better.

Arghhh
So excited about new suspension, disappointed that it won’t be the best combo for the same money.

I can see it doesn't get better for me today eh!

I don't mind the spending, but what bugs me is that I won't reach the goal to go 1.4in lower than what I am currently...
The truck doesn't "dive" when I steer, and there is no problem with my actual suspension... I only wanted to be a bit lower. This starts to sound more and more like wasted cash.

on the plus side, I guess my old parts are still worth something.

all hopes are not lost in cancelling my order. I would most likely loose shipping for the struts, but this is a price I am more than willing to pay considering this new found information...

stay tuned!

Springs are cancelled
1 of 4 strut cancelled
3 struts in 2 packages on their way. If nobody opens the door OR refuse the package, I am saved.

I understand it dive a bit, but it doesn't feel floating. I am not giving up suspension upgrade, I just want to do it properly.

I have a spring device at work that make pretty graph (force vs displacement), I work something out once the oem setup is off.

I just measure and the tire to fender gap is 4.25in all around.

B12 is the plan indeed. Just need to complete the return with rockauto first to ensure not to get parts in double. So after Jan 9th at the soonest (to order); if everything goes as planned.

can you measure your tire to fender gap? I have 4 1/4in all around

Bilstein 46-264909 B12 (Pro-Kit) - Suspension Kit .... ordered.
googled Bilstein #, clicked 15 website or so. tripled check fitment and PN, seems all good.

ECS is 1257 USD + maybe customs (1600$ CAD).
Got it for 1 577$ CAD delivered at my door.

Rockauto order update
1 rear shock cancelled
2 front shock refused (the most expensive package), back to sender.
1 rear shock should attempt delivery Jan 6th.

ECS springs
My order is not officially cancelled yet, as it was supposed to be a direct ship from H & R and they haven't confirmed yet.

Trying to find information on the R line suspension is indeed very difficult. Here is the marking on mine

Looking forward to install all those parts now (turbo, downpipe, DPF, suspension). Not exactly sure when that will be since winter here.

I am really curious to see how the handling & stance will be affected with the B12 kit. Eibach claims a 1.2in drop with their Pro drop (VS 1.4in for the H & R); I was aiming for an additional 1.4in drop, on top of my actual stance. I guess that would put me about 2.5-3in total; but it won’t happen...

With that on, I think this will be the end of the modification for the truck. hopefully!
(except maybe wheel spacer for summer wheels)

Hello,
Your order has been refunded due to a pricing issue we are having with this product line. We are working to update the new pricing file promptly.

It was almost too good to be true (B12 kit)

Anyway, still looking/shopping. Might end up with ECS.

in the meantime, I ordered Filezilla dongle for the flash; which will ease the turbo/downpipe installation as I can do it anywhere and flash it immediately when it is done.
I can get 15% off the tune (where the distributer charges 100$ extra for the flash); which almost even out and I can keep it after. Also gives me latitude if I ever need another flash (eventual setup upgrade), or if I get another car.

I asked truckpart store how much would it be for the kit, claimed 1642$ + 200$ Shipping/tx (CAD). Went with ECS, just placed the order with 15/20mm spacers with extended bolts. ETA early February.

The H & R springs are refund, but they still cost me 22$ because of the currency change! Paid 276 USD Dec 18, got 276USD back Jan 6th but translated in 22$ CAD less. Since CAD is stronger, good time to buy I guess.

now with that installed, that should be the end of modifications.
