First of all.... giving credit where credit is due... thank you V10TDIGUY for letting me take a look @ the beautiful Touareg. When it pulled up I was blown away by the chrome grill matching some...are those intercoolers?

The net partition has new been installed in two differnet Touaregs, and we are very close to completely understanding this fun accessory. There are many different bits of info, so in no particular order - here is the hand on book on it.

Positions-
This does work with the OEM cargo cover installed, it installs as would be assumed below the caro area cover. When the cargo cover is installed, it sits direcly above the net partition.

The net partition can not be attached to the back of the seat and have the seats in the upright position.

The seat can not be in the completely folded down position and extend all the way to the headliner attatchment location above the rear seats (if the seats were in the upright position).

Currently there is not a headliner attachment location above (or just behind) the front seats. Therefor, if the seats are completely down, and the net partition is installed, there is nowhere for it to be attached in a extened position.

The complete length of the net partition from the seat is 36 inches -, so if the seat was in the completely folded down position (where the headrests are removed and installed in the lower part of the seats, with that lower part fliped up, and the seat back now flipped down to be the floor***caution if you put your seats completely down, please put a cloth down to avoid tearing the seat from the lower seat attachment hardware, as if you look there are most likely only one with a protective plastic cover) it would extend completely to the headliner.

The headliner lights located above the rear doors on each side respectively can be popped out by hand without damage (using corress - please do not pull them out and tear your headliners) and when these are pulled out a attachement point is visible and not in use about 1 -2 inches twards the front of the vehicle from the current light location.

With this being said - if this light was pulled out, and the headliner was cut- the correct OEM VW front headliner attachment point could be installed using the same light cover piece with a new - 1 piece trim that would now surround both the light as well as this attachment point. This attachment point would be seccured by the screw visible by removing this rear light.

When the net partition is installed and extended - for instance to the current location that headliner attachment is possible (above the rear seat when the seats are upright) the net is designed so that if cargo was to try to slid forward and push the net twards the driver - (as if the driver was forced to slam on the brakes and cargo was flung forward twards the driver) the net itself will actually lock into the metal frame of the net partition by the net itself, restricting the net from being pulled out any further thus not allowing cargo to come forward.

It can be concluded that the net can be installed -
in conjuntion with the cargo area liner-
in that position with the net extened to the headliner just behind the rear seats
to the back of the rear seats, with the seats folded down when the headliner is cut, the attachment point is installed with a screw (1 respectively on each side of the Touareg) and the correct trim is installed.

If the seat is upright, the net partition MUST be installed in the slots on the sides of the cargo area (below the cargo areas cover) in order to be installed. If it is attached to the back of the seat, the net partition will interfere with the seat being upright because it will het the trim on both sides of the cargo area respectively - because there is not cutout for it.

Still not sure what you mean. From the photos you posted on Vortex it looked like you could have the seats in the normal upright position, cargo cover in place and the net in place. People could sit in the seats, the net could be used as well as the cargo cover.

This is the way it works on my wifes Audi avant and I would be surprised if it cannot work this way on the Touareg.

you exactly right - "in place" but in the Touareg - if its attached to the back of the seats directly- it can not be in the upright position, attached to the back of the seat if the seats are folde completely down (and the hardware is installed in the roof). Otherwise, if you have it attached to the back of the seat (not in the trays below the cargo area cover, but on the sliding rails on the actual seat back) it will hit the trim becuase it too wide.
