Hi there Treg lovers,

I owned a 2005 or 2006 v6 with every conceivable option about 10 years ago.. Absolutely loved it but ended up having to get rid of it.. As circumstances would have it, we are relocating to PHX and I am thinking about getting one in the same year again as a DD. Before you freak out about gas mileage, the job I am looking at will pay for my gas, so that is a definite plus! My question is, now that we have 10 years of data on these vehicles, what main issues am I looking at mechanically speaking in those years? I would like to stay with the v6 unless there is a mechanical/ longevity benefit to the v8. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Frank

Get a newer one. Late 2007 gets you an FSI motor with a little more oomph. 2008 is the "full year" for the "T2" facelift upgrades. I think 2010 or so is the last year for the T2 generation.

I know the V6 owners love theirs, but I have the V8 and I love the way it pulls. I also have a VR6 in an Eos, and I can't see that similar motor pulling the Touareg the same way. If you're not planning to tow, you'll probably be fine with the VR6. But they may be harder to find with all the options on the used market.

Welcome to PHX once you all get here. Feel free to get in touch once you are here. I had a 2006 V8 that I owned for 6 years and traded it in for a 2012 TDI in Feb, 2012 with 76k or so on it. No major problems, just minor issues on it. That being said depending on your price range I would get a later model year if you can with less mileage, check out the service history on the VIN, etc.
