Nappa vs Cricket

This question obviously applied to the earlier T1 models(<2006?, correct me if I'm wrong?).

As we all know, the Nappa leather, was considered an "upgrade" over the Cricket leather. Nevertheless, even if Nappa was still considered an upgrade, I'm sure there are some out there who prefer the Cricket. I would really like to hear your feedback on these two types of leather. Say whatever you feel. From wear resistance, to how it feels under your butt, to even the "textured vs smooth," ANYTHING that comes to your mind. I'm sure some of you have even owned Touareg's with both leather types.
I've had the chance the sit in both, and I do have my preference, but comparing one from the other over the course of not even 30 minutes of test driving, may not tell the whole story of actually owning one over a course of half a decade.

I'm all ears....

I have beige nappa and 114k on the odometer.
It holds up very well. Drivers seat looks like new. Treat it with meguiars once in a while.
have a six and an eight year old sitting in the back seat. stuff cleans up easy. Have a few permanent indentations (no tears) from where the kids seats have been sitting.
So upholstery hold up great. buttons and stuff are another story

There is no need for pics since it is pretty obvious which one is which. Cricket has a raised bumpy texture, the Nappa is just smooth and softer to the touch.

I love the feel of nappa on the first T-Reg i ever saw , had to have one, but was way out of the price range at the time. But i would think that softness would come with a price due to wear. I have cricket and its bullet proof. I mean looks like new, no scuffs, scratches, even car seat makes no dent, I do use a seat protector, so it can "dig" in but I am a fan. I have the dark gray. Wife has light tan in her passat 04. and the cricket took a beating on the driver side bolstering/hip area. (she is a skinny little gal) so no wise cracks. :) but i think the darker colors show less wear.

I treat them with some leather care stuff. Smells nice, and figure it wipes up the kids spills.

Both leathers are still available... just not in the US. I sat in a new 2010 V6TDI with Nappa leather yesterday in Munich. We (the US market) get a very very very limited number of options/packages. (but we do get to purchase the Touareg for about 1/2 price compared to Europe... so don't complain)

I have both Cricket in the Audi and Nappa in the V10. Personally I prefer the Nappa for comfort and look. I believe both would wear well, well mine still look good after 5 and 6 years.

VW leather is another disappointment in my opinion. The stuff just doesn't look or feel like quality leather the other Germans use. The standard vinyl is almost as nice the leather.

What a lot of people don't realize is that if you get Nappa leather, almost everything is leather; door panels, arm rests, head rests, seat backs, even the map pockets on the back of the front seats (if you put your hand in them you can feel the suede backing). If you get Cricket only the seating surface is leather. After 4 years the only area showing wear is on the drivers seat lower cushion where I get in and out. And it's not bad at all.
