In a sad bit of irony, the "I" in my rear TDI emblem has faded as VW's diesel problems continue to escalate. The deep blue emblem has faded to baby blue. The 2012 Touareg is garaged almost 90% of its life. Apparently it doesn't take many UV rays to ruin it. A bit disappointing. I asked my VW parts guy if the faded emblem was a reflection of the times. The humor was lost on him. You would think they would happily replace it for free. Oh well. I used my VW Dieselgate credit card to purchase a new $39 (!) one. Anyone else have this issue?

Well, whatever it is, my guess is that it has nothing to do with your fading TDI badge. :???:

I think you posted in the wrong place.

Same here on mine. I looked at ebay but when i check to see if they fit my '12 TDI Exec it says its incompatible.

Is there a part # or a link you can send to find these. Also, how easy to repair?
It's a super easy fix. I just replaced the "I" but it comes with the whole badge. The letters come pre-spaced. It's a very clever process. First lay a piece of tape under the existing letters to mark positioning. Then pull off old letters. I simply put my fingernail under them and pried them off. It came off easily and cleanly. There was no residual stickie. Now get the new numbers ready. You pull off the rear plastic sheet exposing the back of the letters with the stickie, then, viewing through the clear sheet that holds the front on the letters, lay down on the surface of the paint and push down when ready. You can reposition before you push down. When you are satisfied push the letters down and pull off the sheet holding them together. You are done!

Here is the part number.
