I went to Canada and back 1200 mile round trip with my enduro motorcycle on a hitch carrier in 2018. No problems, like it wasn't there. My bike is 235 pounds. Motorcycle carrier is about 40 pounds, all aluminum except for the hitch shank insertion. It was about $119 if I recall.

One of the things I did to add rigidity and stability was to install two towing eyes in each side of the bumper. I bought an extra one, the Touareg came with one. Then I cross connected my tie downs to the motorcycle frame like a big X. This really prevented the hitch carrier from wobbling, plus I had an anti-wobble hitch plate bolted on as well. 5 ratchet tie downs total.
