Yes, but fortunately it happened in the garage. The "ears" on the cover are not thick enough to keep it in place. I gave up and bought a silver propeller!
Another option is a flip down hitch step or just having your hitch attachment with ball in the hitch. This also acts as a defensive skewer during a rearend. Buy a Masterlock hitch lock and youre set.
On my T1, I manufactured that by cutting the opening in the original solid plate, when I installed the Curt hitch. When I bought the used T2, that plate was missing. I have discovered how convenient hitching and unhitching is without having to bother with it.
I entered both those part numbers at 1stvwparts.com and got nothing from them...but if you just enter your Touareg year the part is under rear bumper components and is called "cap." Looks like it is around $30.
x2. Wife found mine lying on the ground behind the car. Two wraps of electrical tape made it tight enough that I had to tap slightly to get it all the way in.
