Hello all,

Excited to join the good world of Twah-Reegs! Been loving mine since I got it. I have a 2008 V6, black exterior, Brown Leather Interior. Pretty Basic, has everything that I need, but not everything that I want! Couple questions that maybe I could receive some direction for...

1) My heated mirrors don't have a "neutral" position like my 08 Passat had, so either they are in the control mode or heated mode, any way of fixing this or do I just leave it in the control mode?

2) What type of Running boards do you all suggest? Approx. cost?

3) What are your suggestions for changing out my CD player? Not to excited that my Touareg is only a single disk player and not Mp3 capable. Plus, when I do use "burned" disks, they get caught in the player at times when I go to eject them. Talked to VW and they referred me to the bullet in the manual stating that can happen with burned cds bc of them being slightly thicker. I am thinking of trying to find a wrecked Reg with a multi-disk, Mp3 capable player and swapping. How about wiring in an adapter for my Iphone to plug into? Is this very difficult? If you suggest aftermarket, what and how much?

4) Anyone seen a full good looking brush guard for the Regs? I just see the small u shaped bars available, I'm looking for a little more protection. Do those mess with the parking sensors?

5) What about skid plates? And not the plastic ones from VW. If I wanted plastic I'd marry a Playboy model....

Don't have them... couldn't tell you. I play off-road with mine and need all the clearance I can get --- so it's not a mod for me. There have been others in this forum who have added them though.

I use burned CD's and never had a problem with any of them getting stuck. As for adding an iPod adapter --- it's been done. I think "Aircooled" has done it with his 06 V8. Otherwise, you can find the VW 6-disc add on for the back cargo area for relatively cheap.

MountainLord, who is a member of this forum, but doesn't post often, has a skid plate he created... it's an awesome setup. Again, "Aircooled" has this skid plate on his vehicle.

1) Totally normal, unlike other "newer" (Mk4/Mk5/B6) VW's the Treg's don't have the "0" position. Just leave it in the right mirror control if you want it to tilt down when you put it in reverse, or on the left mirror control if you want them to stay in place.

2) No experience here, I would imagine most people run the OEM ones if any

3) You can always add the trunk mounted CD changer to the stock head unit. The Touareg2 headunits (DVD nav, RNS510, etc) all are CANBUS2.0 based and will not work directly with the T1, although there are some work arounds I believe. As far as your iPhone install, for Bluetooth, a common thing is to use an aftermarket unit and integrate it into the OEM headunit. For instance, you can use a Parrot Bluetooth system and wire the outputs into the PHONE-IN on the back of the headunit, so when you answer a call, it'll mute the stereo, etc. This is a 6 wire (2 power, ground; 2 speaker, 1 mute-trigger) install, I picked up a Parrot CK3000 Evolution to install in my GF's '04 (factory nav headunit), just haven't installed it yet. It was $99 from Crutchfield; and if you need more install stuff, spockcat ( Volkswagen Touareg Audio, Video, Telephone, Keyless Start, Paddle Shift, and Dead Pedal Installation ) has all the install stuff and lots of cool other stuff.

4) I don't think I've ever seen any production bars other than the Westin push bar; as with most of these, I wouldn't purchase them for protection, as many off-roaders/expo people refer to them as "damage multipliers". As for parking sensors, no idea here unfortunately, I would imagine they would though.

5) Skid plates, no one in the US still makes metal skid plates as far as I know. I'd love a set though

Actually, your #1 is a good reminder of a whole set of functionality that is not very clear until someone explains it.
