I just got my V8 TReg on Saturday. I had never considered an SUV before the TReg. So far I'm very happy and have already learned
a lot by scanning old posts here.

I have a question concerning the initial screen on the MFI (Nav version). I read in the manual that the initial screenis different depending on
whether the radio is on. When my radio is on the initial screen I get shows the radio frequency; a bit below that is the word Position; then
several lines below that is three dashes.

I understand that I can tune the radio at this point. But what does position mean and why are the three dashes there? Nothing I've done
so far changes the dashes. I know I can change the screen using the
menu forward and back buttons so that isn't my question. Thanks in
advance.

The dashes are for the navigation. When you see dashes it mean that the street you are on is not on the nav cd. Watch it when you driving in town. It will start to show street names. If you use the scroll dial you can switch between diffrent screens.
Radio/Nav
Trip settings such as mpg, range since refuel, Range to refuel, time..etc...

When at my house I see dashes but as soon as I leave the neighborhood it show the streets I am driving on...

Hope this helps

Schuifan, thanks for the reply. While reading your post I started thinking,
"I have looked at the screen while driving around and haven't seen the
dashes change." Then I realized that I would have to have the Nav CD
in for this to work -- I don't usually have the CD in. Thanks, that clears it
up (unless of course my assumption about the CD is wrong).

By the way, I apologize for asking a question that is probably answered in
the manual but my manual set is missing the NAV manual. The dealer
ordered it for me but I haven't gotten it yet.

I ALWAYS have my NAV CD is the head unit. It's just easier to leave it there. Constantly removing it will increasing the chances of it getting scratched or otherwise damaged and those suckers are expensive to replace. Besides, I find ways to actually use my NAV or I just leave it on map mode when I am driving.

No problem, I think they should have just installed some type of hard drive instead of having these cd's. I to leave my regions cd in all the time. For me there is no reason to not have it in since you cant play regular cd's in it anyways. Good luck with your new egg..By the way, I never got my nav manual either. I ordered one from the parts dept but its been over a month and still no manual. I called vwoa and they said they dont have one. They arent very much help if you ask me.

ANd you can play CDs in the 6 disc changer while the Nav CD is the head
unit. Despite some of the negative comments I've read here about the
Nav system, I think it does some cool things. I'm not saying it's the best
on the market but I don't think it's worthless as some have asserted.

I don't suppose that you can put a Nav CD in the magazine for the CD
changer?
