I have searched the existing threads to see if anyone else posted something on this issue but I didn't find anything. I am now experiencing an issue where I am driving down the road and the MFD all of a sudden shows that the driver door is open. It turns on all the lights inside the car as if the car is stopped.

The only way to clear the MFD is to open and close the door. A way to avoid the issue is to "lock" the doors when in the car. It also prevents the car from locking all the doors as it shows that the driver's door is open.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? I suspect that it is a sensor issue and that the cold Ottawa, ON, Canada climate of late (-35 C with wind chill) is messing with the sensor but we have been experiencing intermittent issues (i.e., once every couple of months) with the MFD popping up (and a couple of seconds later taking away) the outline of the car without showing any doors open.

Any ideas as to the cause?

Im sure it's the cold.... it was 0 F here in Ohio yesterday and mine is doing the opposite, it is not showing the door open on the MFD when i open it. There is a microswitch in the door. It requires taking the door apart and replacing the hold latching mechanism on our car :( Its not easy, nor cheap. Probably about $250 a door last time i checked on a price because my back driver door has always had the issue. Search around for the microswitch threads and there is a way to clean them etc but I'm not about to do that until it warms up some.

Hopefully it starts working for you. If you have a heat gun or hair dryer, try using that to see if you can get it to come unstuck. Good luck!

My 08 has the opposite issue. I open the door and it doesn't recognize it. And then somedays it's totally fine. Seems to be worst when it's really cold (10F and colder). So when I exit the vehicle, the accessories don't shut off, and when I enter the vehicle the interior lights don't come on. Gets to be kind of annoying sometimes.

I've searched and looked for threads on the door switches, but have yet to come up with anything. I'm sure it's a simple switch but I don't relish pulling it all apart in the middle of winter.

Ameoba, read above your post. I have the same thing. Its the door locking mechanism. They do not sell the microswitch separate, you have to replace the entire electronic locking mechanism.

Seriously? Damn. I guess I can live with it. I imagine that part is about $250.

Trying to find an answer to a door issue I'm having –*neither this post or the link below helped me but might help someone else reading this (micro-switch tweak): Lock microswitch problem / Door-open signal failure / Car may lock you out / May affect other VAG vehicles

I've got an intermittent front near-side door issue where it cannot be opened from the inside or outside *except* if I (a) open the rear near-side door and slam it or (b) roll the front near-side window down a couple inches. Then the door handle functions. Driving me nuts. (2007 3.6L)

I had the same issue on my wife's '02 Golf. It was one of the microswitches in the door latch/lock mechanism. A trip to Radio Shack and $4 later, I had a new microswitch that I installed in the latch. The old one was riveted in, so I glued the new one. It has worked fine for the past 5 years.
Part number for the switch is 275-016A. I'd suggest buying several as the others WILL fail eventually. I have 2 more to replace on that same car.
