LPG ( Propane ) Conversion

My experience converting 4.7L V8 LX470 was the following:
  • efficiency great (using a liquid injection system)
  • increased performance
  • great susceptibility to vehicle tank pressure being so high compared to supply pressure that the filler protection valve wouldn't allow me to refill it (a bugger when doing long trips) - typically shoulder seasons when the vehicle tank heats up but the service station tank pressure reflects it's large thermal mass as well as underground piping - bottom line is my tank was high temp=high pressure and their tank was low temp=low pressure and the protection valve wouldn't let me fill
  • finally, and most importantly, I had to do redo the valves at 280K (km) which is much sooner than that engine with a reputation being good for 500/600k would usually need

All of that would suggests to me that you just don't want to do it in Aus - perhaps in other countries.

When you got the valves done were they replaced with something more suitable to LPG?
- the guy that did the rebuild was an LPG specialist (working with Taxis) but I don't think it was anything slecial.
I thought ULP safe valves would be good enough for LPG.
- perhaps but one way or another that engine didn't last like it should.
You can get the drip type upper cylinder lube kits, sounds like that would be worth using.
- perhaps, but it was never suggested.

I did the repair and moved it on. I noted it for sale recently with 400K on it - perhaps blowing a bit of smoke.
