So I've had my truck for a year and this has happened every single time you turn off the engine sounds like a gargling or a plunger sound... It's random and sometimes it can happen a couple of minutes after the engine is turned off but it's every single time.

This cannot be a normal sound because it's loud it echoes and when people actually hear it they turn their head sideways so can someone please tell me where this is coming from?

Edit: adding a 3rd video

Mine does that too... it's the vacuum motor on the side of the intake (next to the dipstick) relaxing. If you raise the hood before shutting off the engine and then shut it off, you should be able to see the thing move.

I guess I wasn't clear enough... the noise is normal, far as I can tell. The engine has variable intake paths and the vacuum motor's job is to switch between the low-rpm path and the high rpm. When you shut the engine off, vacuum is no longer being applied and a spring in the vacuum pod returns to its default position.

While I believe your trucks sound like this... Setting aside every 3.6 vw made and sold...There is no way this truck sold from 2010-2018(longer probably) with the 3.6 make this ridiculously loud burbing/gargling/plunger sound..

There is no way in hell 10s of thousands of 50k touareg's sounded like this all over the world and nobody changed a part.

There is absolutely zero way that many people in this world would put up with this, so while I'm sure it exists on some trucks... There is absolutely no way this is considered normal...it's been driving me nuts for over a year... How can everyone put up with this?

Doesn't anyone pull up to a school and turn off the car and kids laugh at the car?

Nobody in this world has heads turn when the car sounds like this Everytime!!!!

Hasn't anyone pulled up to a completely silent area and felt embarrassed? It's such an embarrassingly loud and ridiculous sound I do not believe this is normal and again while I believe the 2 replies have it happen... That doesn't make it normal

No, I can't say that I've had any of those thoughts before. I also never thought twice about the coolant pump and fan staying running after shutting down. Nor the noises it makes while doing a regen along w/ the urea smell. Or the e-brake auto calibrating every so often when the car is put into park and shut down. It's called technology. It surrounds us.

Btw, I had a TDI (not a vr6) and still made all of those noises.

The coolant pump or fan doesn't sound like a wet fart so again I highly doubt every single touareg sounds like a fart after it is shut off...

We live in a sad sad world when cars sound like sharts when they turn off and everybody is just like oh hey that must be normal... Let's not do anything about it

There is zero chance every single touareg sounds like this.. all it takes is being embarrassed once to want the sound to stop..

Every car makes sounds... Like an ebrake but a sound that can be attributed to multiple bodily fluids depending on the time... There is no way diesel gate flourished but fart gate is normal/ignored

🤣Those video's are electronic solenoids and motors moving they don't sound liquid at all

It sounds like many things.. I'm going to post 20 more quick YouTube videos tomorrow and you can let me know all the sounds it sounds like... Sometimes like burbs, sometimes like hiccups, sometimes like a plunger, sometimes like sharts.. depending on acoustics and echos you can clearly hear 15-20 feet away..

Then tell me every touareg on earth has these loud embarrassing sounds..

And I'll sorta believe it cause we lost the ability to care.. we just pay money and accept worse things every year..there would've been a time in history people paid 50 grand for a car and would expect just a little bit more quality... Those times have long past.. they don't exist in 2024

Btw I didn't pay 50 grand... But I didn't but this car new in 2014.. if I did I can tell you I would either demand it fixed or got rid of it. But I'm a old mind in a new time period..

Bruv, people pay $80,000+ to have their Tesla fart.

Don't be so stressed.

It's less about stressed and more about hearing something is normal when it doesn't sound normal And again just because 2 or 3 or 3000 cars have a similar sound doesn't make it normal...

And I don't get your point of a Tesla farting... But you did prove my point of the stupidity of people which is why it may in fact be every touareg sounds like this because people convince themselves to deal with it just being "normal" vs tesla who put an actual fart sound in a menu of there car to play through the speakers...

I may just be one of the few small minorities who pay attention to their surroundings and notice things like this and many other things most people just ignore or don't notice..and I take pride in that.

My '11 VR6 makes the same noise. To me it sounded like something actuating and wasn't so loud that anyone stopped and turned their heads.

Thanks for your ears. Even tho I posted 4 clips with different sounds and tones in each... Yet 1 video only has 7 views, 1 has 15, 1 has 16 and 1 has 18 views... and they all have slightly different sounds

So I've listened to the sound every single time I turn the car on and off... I would say I've heard the sound thousands of times... Yet you all listen once or twice only on some videos and chime in like you know all?

Wait till I post 20 different videos of the sound... How about you take the time to listen even twice in each video... Then comment? Maybe I'm looking for someone to actually listen and troubleshoot with me?

I didn't post so I can borrow your ears for only 6 seconds... That seems kinda like a waste of time don't you think?
