We have a 2014 3.0 V6 Diesel R-Line Auto with 20" wheels.
I have tried to find a second set of wheels for the car, two put on some AT tyres when using our horse trailer.
It appears to me that wheels other than VW Touareg will fit. Can someone enlighten me as to what will fit and I'll take a look on ebay.

Thank you.

17 or 18 inchers will fit nicely with a good choice of tyres at sensible money.

VW, AUDI or Porsche 4x4 wheels with 5x130 PCD will be fine. There are many threads on tyres and wheels - look them up.

I strongly recommend Michelin Latitude Cross - excellent grip, quiet, comfortable and long lasting too. These are a good tyre to run year round on your Tdi.

You were misinformed on minimum wheel sizes elsewhere!

Thank you, but as I understand it (I have been told by a wheel and tyre supplier), that we can't go smaller than 20" due to the size of the calipers.

Use this to determine tyre diameter suitability, use this to determine what wheel size can fit over the calipers.

If fitting off road oriented tyres, I would get a smaller diameter wheel and use tyres with a taller diameter to get a bit of sidewall in there.

Thank you. Made me smile! My original idea was to go for the smaller wheel and larger diameter tyre, but this was blown out of the water by what I was told. Thank you for the assistance.

I put 20" Audi Q7 rims with Cooper Zeon ATZ tires on my treg for towing.
tires work well on the road, good on the sand and for a bit of light off road stuff.

Spare Wheel Carrier

For Aussie based Treg owners wondering about how to carry a full sized spare wheel and tyre, other than on roof racks, check out the Queensland based Tyretrek

They make a tow bar mounted carrier which works well. It mounts into a standard 2" towbar eg. Hayman Reece or any other hitch with a 2" horizontal tongue. You'll need an adaptor/wheel spacer to covert to the 5x120PCD and to take care of the offset Treg wheels have - ET57 on 20" Pikes for example. I've used mine on my MY13 4XMotion off road for a couple of outback trips and it's great!

It's only the R5 that has 5x120 PCD. All other Touaregs are 5x130.

Unless you mean the carrier itself is 5x120 [in which case it's good for the R5 subject to the offset] so you need a convertor to accommodate 5x130? I looked on the website and couldn't see the PCD.

That looks very nice. I sent them a message to see if they would ship to the USA. I like the idea of having a side swing arm for the spare, I don't think it would get as annoying as the fold down option that CBI manufactures.

I have only just seen this post.

What you were told not true.

Whoever you were talking to does not know the Touareg like we do!

You can, as I said earlier, go to 17 inch wheels if you wish.

Every cayenne, Touareg and q7 OEM wheel ever produced fits every vr6, v6tdi and v8 ever sold. The same applies for Touareg v10 with the exception that 18" is the minimum wheel size for those vehicles only.

It's literally as simple as that, no need to make it overly complex.

Oops. Typo, sorry - the Tyre Trek has mounting plate allows the user to choose several PCD, but not 5x130. Sorry if you've been misled by my typo.
