2005 v8 . When I start the car the lights move upwards slightly. However isn't bend lighting supposed to come on when you turn the wheel. I have 2 circled lights(one biggish one with a small one above it on the outer side of each main head light. The bigger one don't come on no matter what I do as I thought that is the bend light as I also had the error light come on now and then. I took to European service tech and they told me the error light might be cause I had aftermarket LED bulb in number plate light and boot lights as the resistor sometimes throws the error. I am still not sure if the front bottom outer light is supposed to be bend lights and come on when I turn. I have the 2005 v8 is there perhaps some models that just have the lenses but no bend lighting and perhaps just reflector ? Does anyone know?

Not all cars had bendy lights.

Go to your local VW dealer and ask them to print off the build sheets [also called the data sheets] for your car. Several pages list everything the car was built with.

There is also a build sticker in the boot on the steel floor to the left of the spare wheel. You will have to decipher the 3 letter build codes. There's a list of them on here and elsewhere - somewhere!

The "adaptive lighting" option wasn't available in 2005. I had the xenon headlights on my '05 VW and they moved up and down while starting the car up but did not bend when you turned a corner.

My 2012 has this option and the lights move when you turn the steering wheel. There is an option to disable this under the "Assist" menu on the RNS. Hope this helps!

Well, that would explain it.

I have noticed that my 08 Touareg lights do not turn as much as my 08 Eos does. Both are bi-xenons. I know that the Touareg's light WILL "bend" because they do it when in low range.

I think 13° left and right is all they move. It is more noticeable with the high beams (main beams) on.

That's what I've been told. On my Eos, when moving, even less than 10 mph, I can turn the wheel and see the lights move pretty noticeably. Touareg, not so much. <shrug>

This is good advice, thanks

No AFS in 2005MY

AFS lighting wasn't available until late 2007 MY, definitely in 2008. All 2005 HID worldwide used the self leveling system to initialize headlights to proper forward attitude. This is done to prevent blinding oncoming drivers if vehicle is in the open.

Inboard lamp holder is flash to pass lighting only in North America. Maybe in NZ or JP. Pull your left stalk inwards with your lights on... Do you see the inboard lamps illuminate? Outboard lamp holder is low beam, high beam, and DRL when deploying HID, 'bi-xenon' lights. Replace in pairs with major brand lamps only for longevity and integrity.

Based on what data did you offer your HO?

IMveryHO, you're wrong. :???:
Not sure what prompts you to say this...

Certainly in North America, no AFS headlights before late year 2007.

Please enlighten me...

People posting in internet pictures of their 2006 built Tregs control panels with AFS errors on MDF. Some owners asking how to code their T1 AFS controllers via VAG-COM. DIY threads are available, how to repair T1 swivel module.
Google spare part 7L6907357 or 7L6907357А and you will get a whole list of adaptive headlights numbers like 7L6941017BN. It is said the numbers are applicable for 2003-2007. etc. etc.

Bottom line

Bottom line, if you are correct, it's strictly non-North American markets. I sell Philips lighting and their cataloging echos my assertions. No AFS in NA pre 2007.

Hella is one of my vendors and they don't offer an AFS headlamp assembly pre 2007, either.

Frankly, I'm not going to run your facts to ground. My assertions stand for NA markets.

I didn't mention: *including American versions.
Anyway, thus you are misleading the OP, coz he is from NZ and his car was imported from Japan.

Depending on what you are using to view the site you don't always get to see where people are based.

We know different markets got - and still get - different build specs so who knows what Japan got in 2005!

The build sheets should sort the OP out.

Thanks all. Didn't mean to start an argument ... I'm just going to go with noobytoogy and go get some build sheets on the weekend as this will tell me
