Hello All -

This is regarding a 2016 with the OEM Xenon headlights. I am looking to upgrade my fog light bulbs to possibly LED. I currently switched them to yellow bulbs but I am looking for more light output. Has anyone done this? I am looking for a plug and play situation. Has anyone done this or have any ideas?

Also, I am possibly looking into installed some aftermarket driving lights or a LED light bar. Has anyone ever done this that can share what they have and pictures?

Thanks for any input. Happy New Year!

Rob

in my T1 I have the DEautokey LED fog lights. They do cause errors but they are super super bright and have different modes. They have Xenon match, Yellow, strobe, and flash. They're switch backs. I find them a super great value. I use them almost every day.

I have a 2012 tdi and I swapped some led fog lights in yesterday. I would say yes , they do fit depending on the led bulb. Some led bulbs have built in heat sinks or fans which come too close to the plastic end of the intercooler. The fog light housing is pretty cheap and light distribution is terrible even with the bright leds I swapped in. Not worth possibly damaging the intercooler and having an expensive vacuum leak from the led housing rubbing or melting the plastic. If you have a different engine model without an intercooler than I'm sure there is plenty of room to fit whatever style of bulb you want but again, the factory fog light output is still terrible. You will be blinding on coming traffic with almost no difference from the driver seat. Your 2016 model has different fog lights in a slightly different location but the same rules apply.

Question regarding the whole fog light assembly (lens) - I have not looked yet so please excuse the question. How do you replace the whole assembly? Does the bumper need to come off? Any comments will be appreciated!

Thanks, Rob

Don't know what car you have, but for my 2016 TDI Exec, the dealership charged $294 labor to replace fog light assembly due to a cracked lens.

They also had to readjust the front bumper since it was not properly aligned to begin with, but it wasn't clear whether it would have to have been done anyway just because of the fog light. Regardless, if you remove/reinstall the bumper, you have to recalibrate the ACC (if you have that option). Dealer charged $396 for the bumper and recal.
