Left fan not blowing air, others now starting to fail (blower motor or flaps?)

So I have a serious problem with the Touareg I just bought (2011) that unfortunately wasn't spotted during the pre-purchase inspection.
There's a ticking noise coming from behind the mid console and a zooming noise from behind the steering wheel.

The left fan is not blowing any air since a few days and the other three fans are beginning to fail - they go on and off every so many minutes.

Now originally I was told it's the blower heater motor (which should be easy to fix) but others are telling me it's actually the flap motors which are deep inside the dashboard and will require a lot of work to replace. I am bringing the car tomorrow to a workshop to have it checked but I'd be happy if you'll can share your thoughts.

The standard two zone has a single blower motor and you can adjust left and right separately. It blows into the rear, but the rear left gets the same as the front left. The rear right gets the same as the front right. You get to set two settings.

The four zone has a single blower motor under the dash for the front vents and a second fan motor in the rear hatch for the rear vents. You can adjust front left and right and rear left and right. You get to set four settings.

In no Touareg, was there ever a blower for the left and a blower for the right. That design did and does not exist.

Thanks for the insight, Nickyt. I am getting different opinions from different workshops. If it's indeed the heater blower motor (7P0820021B) as per attached pic, it would be an easy and cost efficient fix. I had the part already ordered.

Now, the ticking noise is caused by a broken flap servo, which is deep inside the dash - that's what I am being told and would cost 1-2 days in labor as they need to take out the entire dashboard.

Does the above make any sense?

Yes. If you get air out of the right side, then the left side has air also.

If no air is coming out, the most likely problem is the flaps.

Fixing the flaps really really really really really really really sucks.

The small servos that move the flaps have a plastic cog that wears and eventually the cog does not quite engage so you hear . . . click . . . click . . . click . . . click . . . click . . . as the servo tries but can't quite engage.

If this is what you've got then you should run a VCDS scan to try to identify the clicker(s).

There are several servos and it can take a number of hours to access and change them

The servos themselves used to be about 80 bucks so if you do end up going deep into the dashboard it's well worth carefully inspecting even those that appear to be good with a view to replacing them anyway.

The servos need setting up after installation for which you will need VCDS.

Came back from two workshops. First one told me servos need to be replaced which will cost me $750 in labor and parts. Second shop simply used a flashlight and figured that the switch opening and closing the fan itself was broken. They manually opened it with a stick so it's blowing air right now, but it should still be replaced.

They also ran diagnostics showing problems with the servos. Thing is, A/C is working fine, the ticking noise happens at most 1-2 a day. Also some issues with the heater blower motor. Got a spare already, so I am thinking of having this one and the new fan installed and leave the servos for what they are until they break down....
