My 2015 TDI Execline is at 125,000 km, so I've been researching options for addressing carbon buildup.

In addition to "walnut blasting", this product kept coming up in my web searches:

I'm pleased with the other Hot Shot's products, so I decided to try this Extreme Concentrated Fuel Injector Cleaner.

Five days ago, I put 6 ounces of this stuff into my fuel at the 3/4 full mark. My regular city mileage has been 20.5 mpg for months now, so I was hoping to see it go up to 22 mph.

300 km later, my tank is at 1/2 full, and something is going on with my engine. I am now averaging 24.2 mpg.

I'm driving the same roads and fueling at the same station, so those are constants. Maybe it's just randomness of air pressure and ambient temperature over the last five days. But maybe I do indeed have clogged injectors, and maybe this stuff actually does indeed clean injectors.

I'll keep using this additive and report back with my longer-term results.

Has anyone else tried this Hot Shot's injector cleaner on their Touareg TDI? Did you get noticeable improvement in performance?

1. It is not a constant additive, it states that it is for x amount of miles or every 6 months as a cleaner.

2. Placebo effect since you know it was added you driving habits change VERY subtly.

With both of those stated, when I bought my 16 Treg with 50k miles after I put 5k on it I bought a bottle of it and did an initial cleaning. It definitely gave the engine more pep.

I now have a bottle of the "daily shot" for constant use in the garage.

It could indeed be placebo effect.

I'm going to run this treated tank dry, and then see what my next tank of untreated fuel gets me for mpg performance. Yes, I plan to use this injector cleaner twice-yearly, in addition to the Hot Shot's Everyday Treatment I put into every tank.

The edge had gone off my Touaregs performance. Cleaning the soot & crud out of the intake made a huge difference. More power & mpg.

capese21: I am considering doing the same to my 2015 TDI intake manifold. A local Vdub shop provides walnut blasting services, and I'm sure it will improve fueling and performance for me.

How did you clean your intake soot buildup? Did you do it yourself?

Yeah! For me, 'dry' is 1/4 tank to 1/8th tank remaining. I never bottom out the fuel (must keep those fueling components always submerged and cooled!)

This is a good reminder for all TDI owners, too.

I have used it and use the hotshots edt also. But I switch from optilube xpd and back to hotshots. Depends on what is on sale. The optilube makes a single clean too that is like the diesel extreme that u use about 1 time a year or like 20k miles. I am state side so I put in miles not km and I use them both in my 16 Treg and 15 golf sportswagen

Try Stanadyne. Been using it in all my Diesel engines for years. They have a summer and winter formula. They are the company that remanufactures most injectors

I use Flashlube, 1ml per 1 litre of fuel and it's a lubricant as well, something that's not stated on the Hotshot. Extra lubricity is the main reason that I use this product, might be worth checking with the manufacturer of Hotshot to see if it's included
