Is this the correct oil?

I'm due for an oil change soon, and went out to NAPA to buy some oil. I was mainly looking for Mobil one 5w40, but was given Castrol Edge 5w30. I was reading my manual and it says I can use 5w40, 5w30 but doesn't specify which VW approved 5w30 or 5w40. The guy said this one was good for my 2008 V6 3.6 Touareg, a quick approval? I was reading through forums and heard not all Castrol edge oils are approved by VW, but couldn't find which specific approved Castrol oil was best for my 08. Thanks!

VW petrol spec is 504.00

That oil does not meet that spec.

Ge an oil that says 504.00 approved. Determine the weight based on your climate and the user manual specifications.
Julie, according to my repair manual your V6 (BHK engine code) takes 6.3 liters (6.7 qts) and needs VW oil spec 502. Use synthetic oil SAE 5W-40, 5W-30 or 0W-40.
Castrol Edge 5w40 is 502.00 approved. I just bought some this weekend for the wife's Eos. Look on the back of the bottle for the VW 502.00 spec. It must list it or don't buy it.

Right. I need just about 7 quarts, but my problem here is that my manual only states to use 5w40, 5w30 etc, and to "be careful because not all 5w40 and 5w30" are up to spec. But it does not state to use 504. Would you mind recommending some oil that are suitable for my Touareg that are up to spec?

I'm a little confused. Is it 504 or 502?

Strange. My manual gives the spec.

Care to post where you manual specifies weight only?

It says 503.00 but that has been superseded by 504.00 but obviously a 503.00 spec will also suffice.

Yes, when i get home i will show you my manual. So as long as it says 5w40, 5w30, or 0w40 and "Volkswagon Approved" as well as 502 on the bottle, then that should be the right oil, correct?

It must say 503.00 or 504.00 approved. The weight is not as important as the vw required approval.

I've been putting rotella t6 in all my volkswagen, my v8 FSi egg, my 1.8t Fsi sportwagen, my old tdi's and my kawasaki zx6r race bike.

Should re name Rotella Franks, that **** goes on everything!

Thank you so much for the information, now have to take an extra trip back to NAPA to return this oil. I'll look for the 504, and more specifically the VW approved. This Mobil 1 seems to be VW approved, right?

thank you for the information, I'll try to find some Rotella out here. :nerd:
Don't bloody start!!
Does that cause chaotic discussions here? Because I am also a Rotella prophet. :D

I even race with it, and I've never owned a diesel car.
That is what i use, and have been using for years, in everything i own.
i just remembered, even my champion generator and honda mower gets that oil.

I'm just a guy on the internet, so take my advise with a grain of salt.

You can buy pales of it, about 20L for about $80 CAD

Rotella is a touchy subject everywhere.

Google what ever make of car, and put rotella at the end. You will find endless discussions beaten to death on it.

When i do my oil changes, i do buy OEM filters from volkswagen.

The lady is trying to make sure she only buys the correct oil recommended by VW and nothing but.

Anything else is a distraction.
The 502.00 spec I related to you earlier comes from my Bentley Repair Manual. Information is located under fluid capacity charts for 2008 V6 (BHK) Touareg engine.

List of VW/Audi Approved Oils directly from Audi / VW.

Stick with the VW 502 00 Oils in this list.

BTW: Castrol Syntec is now Castrol Edge.

And as I already mentioned, their 5w40 is 502.00 approved. It was the only one I could find on a recent oil purchase.
