Just looking at my knob.. no not THAT knob.. but the one in the Touareg by the gear shift lever that plays about with the transfer case.

Is there a way we can force a 50/50 lockup of the center-diff, but stay in High-range on the gearbox? Perhaps a Vac-Com code or something?

The reason is simple: for ice-racing in late January, I would like to have the option of running Center-Lock in High-range if I decide I'm not happy with the torque-vectoring of the stock setup. Center-Lock would make it more like Gen-I Quattro, which I have LOTS of experience flinging around an ice-track.

Frankly I'm a bit scarred of leaving the driving dynamics to the computers when on ice. I know I'll be running with ESP-off, and I hope with the low Cf of the surface the center-diff will just auto-lock and stay there... But I can envision some clever Kraut programed the center-diff to unlock when it senses wheel-lock on Braking. And then the resulting rather large *WOOOF* into the snow-bank as 6200lbs (me +V10) come crashing back down to earth.

I am restoring the UrQ, so she's too purdy to take into the battle-zone. Not to mention that parts are too f'ing hard to find when body-damage happens.

I wonder if anyone on the board has ice-raced their Touareg before?

Reading the attached PDF...
Starting on Pg46…

Pg48 – 51 – it sure sounds to me that 100% full lock-up of center-diff can only be achieved in low-range.
Specifically Pg51 – it recommends forcing center-diff to lock, but in my 2007 that can only be done via Low-Range.
Pg54 – the knob is different than what’s installed in my vehicle..

I wonder if I can buy the earlier gen knob, and somehow be able to select the center-lock, from within High-range.
