I recently purchased this dock extension cable:

Dock Extender Cable - CableJive

Using VW's OEM cable, the iPhone or iPod has to stay inside the glove box. But, I want to have access to my phone while playing music through the NAV unit, so I bought this cable.

The problem is, I can't close the glovebox all the way, otherwise it will pinch the extension cable. I'd really like to route the cable somehow so I can leave my phone in the rubber compartment above the NAV on the dashboard. Anybody done anything like this before? 2009 TDI

i have the rns 510... what does that mean "sync the phone to the radio"?

That won't work... first the Internal HDD has no where near as much storage as I want, and second i would have to constantly keep updating the internal HDD with new songs via SD Card. Plus, it only plays mp3's!!

Yeti - please read carefully. I never mentioned anything about wanting to make calls... in fact I have no problem doing that right now regardless of where my phone is, because I can just dial and choose a name from the Phone menu on the RNS510.

Yes, the iphone is bluetooth capable - but it is not capable of sending audio to the RNS via bluetooth, only the USB cable (which is how I prefer it anyways). The difference here is that you have two devices, an iPod and a Blackberry, so the ipod can live inside your glove box. However, I need access to my phone so it can't stay inside the glove box.

Basically, bluetooth will work fine for voice, but not for music.

Back on topic - does anyone have any ideas how to achieve this Mod? I thought about drilling a small hole in the side of the glove box for the cable to fit through, then route it up to the plastic storage compartment on the dash.

yes, it is very possible - that is what i have been doing for last 3 months.

but it's annoying because i can't see my phone while its in the glove box.

my friends Acura streams music via bluetooth, but your Touareg does not... im not sure why they did it that way. its pretty annoying.
