Hi everyone.

forgot to make one of these so here we go

I own a 2016 TDi Lux. only mod so far it bigger tires because i live in NH.

I use to own a 12' Q7 TDi and drowned that one in lake trying to make my way across it. lessoned learned was entry speed..... big gulps of water happened and you can guess the rest so we moved into a Touareg which is so much nicer!

FYI ~ Touaregs are not boats either. If you plan on fjording streams look into a snorkel mod, or a boat your Touareg could tow.

Hello and welcome, officially, to the forums.
Yea water ingestion is a problem for any vehicle. Like you said though, lesson learned.

What did you learn about entry speed? Do you think you were going too fast or too slow? I creep at the slowest possible speed when fording in my Touareg, and I carry a stick with the factory rated fording depth marked out, which I use while wading across the stream to measure the depth before I cross. I'm not as cool as the jeep guys that drive 50mph into the deepest part of the crossing and simultaneously rip parts off the vehicle and drown the engine.

If doing the full fording depth, I also tie a tarp across the front grill to avoid any depth increase from a bow wave.

Nope I read your post correctly. You ruined a Q7 in attempt to cross a lake with it. Which tells me you thought your Q7 was a boat that you could use to cross a lake.
I stand by my reply. And my suggestion of a snorkle mod.

The OP did say lake, but I personally read it as an over exaggeration of a large puddle.
I mean who the hell would try to cross an actual lake with their Treg??
