Okay, so yesterday, the car started and ran fin in the morning with no codes, just the ESC lamp on in the instrument cluster. Later in the afternoon, the outside temperature was around 80-82 degrees. Attempted to start the Touareg, and again I have the "Immoblizer Activated" again, and no start. This morning around 9:00 am, the car starts and again I have random codes.

Any advice? Practical experience? I'm all ears..

I've even thought about just driving it at night, but that won't help my transportation issues... )

 

Can anyone tell me if the immobilizer in my Touareg is in the instrument cluster? The local service department has said it is my instrument cluster, and has given me a quote of $1100 to repair the car. It is a lot of money if it is the wrong diagnosis...

 

You can check the switches of the clutch pedal. This is what happened with mine. Have it scanned with VAS PC, dealers software and what the diagnosis say.

Any chance your carpet gets wet during rain storms? If so you got some wiring issues due to corrosion. Airbag errors are a little suspicious and need to be looked at also. Have you also tried to clear the faults to see what comes back?

 

Three times, i've cleared the codes. They do not come back, with the exception of the radio, until i get this immobilizer activated message. And again, the no start only occurs when the vehicle gets hot on a sunny or warm day. In the evening, after 20:00 hrs, she'll start every time.

You never answered my one question, does your carpet get wet during rain storms? If so you have some corrosion going on in your main wire harness.

 

No, I have never noticed water in the carpet after rainstorms...

 

Sometimes, the carpet can feel dry to the touch on the surface, only to find out after further investigation, that the floor right under the carpet is soaked.

The foam under the carpet is thick, so even a depth of 5 cm of water, might not be enough to allow full absorption and travel to the surface.

If you haven't already, you MUST LIFT the carpet to conclude if yes or no.

 

I'll get a chance to do that tonight or tomorrow, we are expecting quite a bit of rain today. I do have the carpet partially up on the driver's side, as I have been checking for open circuits during the hottest part of the day, and as of yet have not seen any signs of water or corrosion...

I'm going to keep looking though...

 

Based on the various fault codes being seen there is a chance that replacing your battery may resolve the issues including the intermittent imobilizer fault.

 

Yep, did that also. Just prior to posting, I replaced the battery. I remember experiencing odd malfunctions in my Jetta when the Battery went low, so I figured what the hell...

 

Update, after having quite a bit of rain this weekend, I lifted the carpet up and looked for any signs of water or moisture. Everything below the carpet, and the carpet itself was dry. Looked along the main harness, and again, no signs of water...

Any ides?

 

Okay, after following many circuits, and testing for grounds and "opens", I decided to just start over, and read my scans. All six scans during this fiasco had ONE common denominator... The ignition switch. Picked up one from the dealer ($225), installed, and voila!... My headache is over.

Thanks to you all, it helped keep my head on straight and just get back to reading the wiring diagrams, and taking a good solid look at my scans..!

Make sure the chassis negative lug next to the negative battery terminal is tight. If you have any more problems, I am not far away and glad to help. I have been fixing immobilizer problems and repairing kessy boxes for my own special projects. I can pull logins, reprogram kessy firmware, clone steering modules, etc. Sometimes a simple vcds re-alignment of components can fix immo activated lockouts.

Jeff is it possible to put a used steering column in a 2004 touareg
Vw says they don't know if it could be done.

 

Hi. Your steering column has a lock/unlock module that is vin locked to your car/kessy box. Answer is no it won't work. However you can exchange the circuit board between columns with a little work.
There is a hidden Phillips screw for removal from lock rod that is only accessible with ignition on and column unlocked. 99% of the time column is locked when needing the repair and inaccessible. It takes me 20 min to remove the column lock module and circuit board. There is also securtity screws. You can see some pics in my photo album here. Dealer can only align a new replacement kessy box or new column module (not used). I can clone the column module sw if needed from an inoperative one. The key fob is unique too. I have repaired many of these by changing out matching key, kessy box, and column lock module from salvage. The key authorization module is not unique and is easily interchangeable. Replace switchblade into new key fob and all is good except new kessy vin is different than cars vin. Recoding is also needed using vagcom/vcds.

this thread is old, but im at a loss, put a new 3.6 in my 07, now there is no power to the fuel pump, getting codes for start authorization, putting direct 12 power to the pump i can get the motor to start but that is the only way, someone help!!
