I had a Grand Cherokee Overland and was toying with waiting for the next generation Grand Cherokee (the WK, due later in 2004) prior to buying the Touareg. After seeing the Touareg at a dealership, I was hooked. The fit, the finish, the features, the air suspension, I love everything about the Touareg.

Well there are now some pics of the WK floating around and looking beyond the marginal DC quality and such, it's just plain fugly (IMHO). I thought they were smoking crack when they designed the new Durango but I have no idea how they decided that what they did to the Grand was a good idea.

Noting that the pics are the mocked up for selected dealers and insiders, they are real close to what will go into production. The guy that runs the site they are on has been accurate for the past few years concerning Grand Cherokees and I'm sure he is on the new WK.

Here's a link to some pics for the curious ones:

I thought I made the correct decision when I bought my Touareg and now I'm feeling even better about it. Only have 650 miles on it but I absolutely love it. :D :D :D :D :D

Don't know the prices on the yet to be released WK, but my '02 Overland MSRP'd around $39k, but I paid around $33k cash. I'm guessing that the high GC WK will be around the same.

RE: Grand cherokee vs Touareg

I presently own a 2000 Grand Cherokee LTD with all the goodies and navi. This is my 2nd GC. I had a 99 and had sooo much trouble that Chrysler bought it back, and replaced it with the '00

I have had problems with this one also included the brake rotors which I replaced with non OEM one's. I really think the looks of the 1999-2004 WK is great. After seeing the 2005, which looks to me like an Explorer from the back, I think the design was ruined.

But comparing the Jeep with the Touareg is like apple and Oranges. Your Jeep may have listed for $39K, and you paid $33K, but try to trade it in and see what you can get for it. The depreciation is terrible. The quality I find on my Touareg I have never found on the Jeep. Everything seems to be put together perfectly.

This weekend My wife and I took a trip to northern Florida, our first long trip since we bought the Treg. I could not beleive how wonderfully this car handled. There were several times that I was driving at 90+ mph and didnt realize it.....I tell everyone I actually bought 3 vehicles....a sport utility, a luxury sedan and a sports car, because thats how I feel with this.

I still have the Jeep but havent driven it since purchasing the V8Touareg

I understand your thoughts, I too had a '99 POS LTD, then a '00, then the '02. I can't say the trade was that bad on the '02 Overland, it only lost 1/3 in two years (18k miles). I fought with DC on the '99 but lost in arbitration, glad to gear somebody spanked them for their customer abuse.

I think the WK looks like a cross between the WJ and a Pacifica, bleech.

I am so happy with my Touareg, I like everything about it. Granted the Nav could be better, I flipped the map mode to "Travel" (rather than North) and played rally driver with it the weekend on some winding rural roads. That was a kick.

I'm not sure if the Touareg to WJ comparision is apple to oranges, more like something very sweet (Touareg) to something bitter (salt?) :D

I'm so with you on the speed thing, I use the speed warning alot becuase it just feels so stable that I forget to pay attention to how fast I'm going.

I just turned 700 miles and it's really had being easy on it for breakin, can't wait to hit 1k.

You feel the same way we do...we traded in our 2002 Durango on the Touareg....no comparison....and drove it 4000 miles to Florida from WA State....
Now if I can keep it out of the way of the crazy drivers in Florida where the traffic laws are only a suggestion.....

Is it just me or does it look like the new Grand Cherokee is the result of the Liberty and Durango designers hopping into bed with each other????

The Liberty is a good looking vehicle.... but the new Durango? It's a joke.
