Hi All
Can anyone advise whether I can replace the ignition key battery myself?
My spare key has gone flat with no use I presume

Yes... You can and its really easy... There are two types of Keyfobs.

Type 1 - If you extend the Key, you will see a small slit in the cavity. Insert a flat head screwdriver and twist. The key will seperate into two halfs. One of the halfs contains the battery which you can replace...

Type 2 - If no slit is present when you extend the key, turn it with key extended so that the VW symbol is facing up. Then pull on the section BELOW the VW symbol(use the key cavity to get a grip). The panel will come off and you will see the battery...

1 is not an option on a Touareg key fob. Do not even attempt to follow the number 1 direction above for your Treg key or you will damage the fob. You only have to flip the key open and pull off the panel below the VW emblem to access your battery. No tools needed to do this at all.

The battery costs about $3.50 USD at just about any retailer/grocery checkout...just match the numbers....it costs about $10.00 USD at a VW dealer.

Yeti is correct....open the switchblade and insert your fingertip and pull the lower half of the side of the keyfob toward you.

Yes, you sure can. I had mine done at a local shopping centre Mr Minute. $15 all up and no problems since.
