Hi. I had the timing chain replaced 15000kms ago in Jan 2015. The timing values have slipped back a little and i am starting to hear a slight chain/guide rattle at 2000-3000rpm.

How can you check the oil pressure and oil pump easily? how hard is it to remove the sump?

Thanks.

The oil pump is not in the sump. It's chain driven at the back of the engine in between there and the transmission.
Are you sure? Isn't it in the sump with a shaft drive up to the gear set?
BTW - oil pressure is ok. I bought a pressure gauge and removed the pressure switch and fitted it there.
The rattle was coming from the intake runner - I ordered a new bushing from gruven parts.
Timing is still bad -5,-10 but chain not rattly.
Cheers

Hi benb2376. Yes you are correct, sorry I didn't explain that well. The oil pump is in the sump and the chain drive is at rear of engine. I had oil pressure tested at the dealership with their instrumentation. It was quick and easy and around $100 so money well spent I thought. My problem was the PC Valve diaphragm which deteriorated and in turn caused the oil pressure warning light
problem and in turn a major engine fail. The tell tale sign was a blowing or sucking air sound from a small air vent hole at the back of the engine.

Can you elaborate a little more on the timing? How do you check that? (vag com I assume... but where?). What is acceptable? 0?

I think it's group 93 on VCDS. There is a value for the inlet and outlet.

Timing specification is + / - 7 degrees.

After timing chain was replaced the value was -2,-4. Now it's gone worse to -5,-10.

Reduction in bottom end power and slightly affects transmission shift pattern.

In an ideal world 0,0 would give the balance between power and economy. I would prefer to set at 5,5 degrees positive to allow for the shift over time. Just a thought.
