Yes I have, it's actually called a Gates Drive, you need to remove the intake manifolds to remove the alternator. Your glow plug harnesses will most likely break during removal. Several gaskets will need replacment.

I think there are two parts to that coupling and you need to replace both.

And also the same coupling on the air con compressor too.

They weren't a service item originally but somewhere along the line I think it became one at something like 100,000kms.

Search the site using the search wording in my signature.

Widen your search on the UK site where there are more R5 owners by typing in something like this in Goggle or Bung:

site:www.mytreg.com alternator coupling

I presume you do know about using the right oil in the R5.

505.01 or 506.01 if no DPF fitted to avoid premature camshaft lobe wear. Even VW dealers get it wrong!

In the USA there is no document put out by VW for the replacment as maintenance for the gates drive. It's as needed only.

The two part you are referring to is a superceded alternator freewheeling toothed pully and the gates drive.

In my opinion there is no good reason to replace the gates drive unless the teeth are sheerd off which would mean your alternator has siezed.
