I assume the "fix" was done by the dealership (it was a single-owner 48-month lease return), but I would like to confirm before looking into getting an ECU tune/TCM revert. Can this be determined without VCDS?

Look under the hood....

When the dealership did the "fix" they put a TDI RECALL PROOF OF COMPLETION label under my hood. It was placed to the right of the VEHICLE EMISSIONS CONTROL INFORMATION label.

Thanks!
I have the same sticker. Kinda glad I don't know what I'm missing.
Throwing away money at the fuel pump, is what you are doing now. Also, a car that's missing about 20% of the torque it had before from 1300 to 2000 rpms.

It used to accelerate like a true "Sport" utility vehicle. VW Audi and Porsche tuned them and turned them into dogs that suck excessive amounts of fuel, to appease CARB. It's really sad.

The more I read around here the more I think getting a tune is the move. Probably a trans tune too. In traffic the trans feels real clunky. Until then I'm glad I don't know what I'm missing.

Do a transmission reset. It's DIY, takes 10 seconds and costs nothing.

Just put a 2013 750 AK TCM into my 2014 from the Motherland. Original was a 2014 750 CF TCM.

If I had it all to do over again.... I'd see if Yrktreg would allow you to do a package deal, for, say $500, where you submit both your ECM for a stock back to original tune fueling map, and a stock back to original tune for your Trans Control Module, AT THE SAME TIME, to save on shipping and handling costs, and to improve his efficiency in the matter.

When he has a Stock fuel mapping tune that will get me through CARB bi annual tests, or if he needs a ECM to work with, I'll volunteer mine from a 2014 TDI LUX.

If I could only afford to do one, I would absolutely do just the ECM fuel mapping reflash, back to original. The TCM suffers from screwed up throttle input being so deep into the pedal, fooling the TCM to still hold the gear for too long. The factory fuel map flashing pre CARB allows the engine to make the proper torque and HP to properly drive the input shift points to the remapped TCM, so it shifts where the torque is, instead of causing the TCM to hold lower gears for far too long. Everything on this powertrain depends on the motor being able to make the torque it's capable of with the stock ECM flash at 1500 to 2500-2700 RPM's. The fixed CARB /EPA reflash destroys this. I feel that the ECM flash is the most important.

Do a ECM retune by pulling that out from under the cowling near the hood, first, and then later, do the TCM, if you can't afford both, at the same time.

If you live in non hilly areas, that are flat, and don't trailer much, the TCU fix might be enough for you. I live in a mountainous state, and I tow a travel trailer. Without the torque being there with the neutered fix tune, regardless of TCU tune you run, it won't hold the taller gear, without the transmission hunting and seeking enough torque from the engine, and looking for a gear that will do the work. It needs that original factory fuel mapping, pre diesel-gate.
