Hi I was changing the timing belt on my 04 v8 and the cam shifted.
I moved it back but am not sure if it was back to where it was.
was wondering does anyone know what is the margin of error on the timing to where the engine can compensate?
I turned the engine by hand and hear clicking noise and can't tell weather it is made by the timing chain inside the engine.
Any suggestions?

Mate there is no margin for error.
It must be exactly as it is supposed to be.
You did not have the locking tools?

I aligned the crank to the notch on the plastic covers and took off the covers and noticed that the cam that slipped inperfectly level but the passenger side cam appears to be off by one tooth.

Is it damage done or can I salvage the situation by realigning the cams by purchasing the tool t40005?

BTW im really stressing right now!!!!
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Very sorry to be doom and gloom but most likely if you heard clunking and it sounded like a diesel I would think that was your valves hitting the pistons. Recorrect the timing and do a compression test that will tell you if/which cylinders have an issue.
