I can't get the bloody thing to program off my garage door opener. I have tried everything the manual says!!! It has worked fine on my pervious 3 vehicles which all had the homelink system.
I assume you programed your remote to a "homelink" button, but did you program the opener to accept the signal from the "homelink" button? Most newer openers require both procedures (rolling codes and all).

With my past vehicles 2 Nissans and an Audi A4, I simply followed the steps in the manuals.
1. cleared the homelink-press buttons 1, 3 together and wait for light to flash
2. press my garage remote button at the same time pressing one of the three homelink buttons. This is right when the homelink light is supposed to flash slowly and then accept the garage code. It is not doing that

I had the same problem with my homelink. What you have to do is buy new batteries and install them in your garage door remotes. You should have 2 and Homelink wants new batteries in them.

After you have done this call homelink and they will walk you through the programing steps. Then if it still wont program they will send you a new homelink modual that you can install or get your dealer to install.

My dealer refused to help with the homelink problem, just stated it should work.. (JERKS.)

This is what I had to go through to get mine to work. After I installed the new homelink modual it programed quicker than you can say wham bam thank ya mam.

P.S. This is the only problem I have had with my treg in 16 months and 20k Miles. \:D/

You might want to make sure that you haven’t maxed out your garage door with the amount of remotes it can hold. My opener can hold a max of five, the 2 remotes, wireless key panel, my 2 cars. Anything more then that have to disable existing devises (i.e. I wanted to program a keychain opener or 3rd car).

I had the same issue -- the manual shows the wrong location for where you need to hold the garage door opener remote. It has to be held 2-3 inches from the map lights in the bottom of the rearview mirror -- not up by the homelink buttons as shown in the manual. Its a real pisser and will drive you nuts!

I did exactly as you guys said at it worked right away. The manual was wrong all along. Thanks a bunch, you fellas saved me some grief and a trip to the dealer. Just picked up my V8 Touareg on Tues. and still learning many of the features on the vehicle.

I have a 2007 V6 and I still cannot make my Homelink integrate with my Garage remote control by either holding it 2-3 in. in front of the Homelink buttons or by holding it below the map lights underneath the rear-view mirror as others have suggested. The manual states that if you own a garage door opener with rolling codes, you will need two people to re-program/re-train the garage door opener and one person to program Homelink in the vehicle. --I have yet to try this procedure, but I believe I have rolling codes according to the web site. Nothing else has seemingly worked, so I guess I will try it. I will let everyone know if it works once I can get my ladder out and have someone stand in the garage (We have a Wayne-Dalton i-Drive Garage door...pretty fast and pretty silent....plus motor is out of the way http://www.wayne-dalton.com/DirectDrive.asp)

I can tell you right now you do not need two people to program Homelink with a rolling code opener. I have programed my Treg as well as my previous Lincoln Navigator and did both by myself. It really is not as hard as every one is making it out to be. You are better off to get the exact directions from Homelink for the ones in the car manual are not right. I got the correct directions both times from them.

Maybe I can save you some headache. Wayne Dalton i-Drive is not compatible with homelink. When I lived in GA, I had this same opener -- which is incredibly cool, by the way -- and I tried forever to get the thing working with my Homelink. I ended up calling both Wayne Dalton and Homelink before I was finally told my opener wasn't compatible.

Now, this was three years ago -- maybe it is changed now. I certainly hope so! Might be worth a call to the Homelink folks....

Homelink programming has to be done with the handheld transmitter in very specific positions for each vehicle. I had the same problem with my wife's BMW 3 series and my 06 Treg untill I went to homelink.com. I called their support number and got specific instructions on where to hold the hand help opener while programming. Works like a charm once you know the specific location to hold the remote.

Sir or Madam:

I'm having a devil of a time programming this darn thing. My Honda Ridgeline programmed like a dream. Where exactly should one hold the original remote to get this to work?

Thanks in advance.

After 2-3 weeks of playing with every instruction from tips at this url, Wayne-Dalton iDrive TorqueMaster directions, and the VW 2007 Touareg manual, I finally made the Homelink work with the rolling code iDrive Garage Door opener. You ask how? Well, the Touareg manual is correct except for the location of the garage door opener in relation to the Homelink receiver when pressing the buttons. The manual says to position the garage door opener 2-3 cm from the Homelink unit. The $64,000.00 question is where in relation to the Homelink Unit. I did not see a rapid flashing light until I did two things: 1) I waited until my garage door opener LED started flashing rapidly before pushing the #1 button on my in Treg Homelink device and 2) I moved the garage door opener around in every conceivable position until it received the signal at a 45 degree angle (i.e. Northwest) about 5 cm from the Homelink front. I then pressed the Learn button on the iDrive and pressed the #1 twice until the iDrive responded with a beep. -It took over a month to get the Homelink to work with my iDrive, but thanks to all the tips and persistance, a rolling code Wayne-Dalton iDrive will work with a 2007 V6 Touareg's Homelink system!
