My rig's (our '04 V10 TDI nicknamed "Hilda") parking assist warning lights always stays red these days. My wife jokingly says "Hilda has personal space issues and needs therapy."

I've wash'ed and rinised out the sensors-- made little or no difference. The system rarely had any issues in this past, so I've become accustom to them.

Do these sensors tend to wear out, or do they need maintenance of some sort?
Do I need to check error messages using VAG-COM?

Thanks all!

Try This

When I had a hitch put on my new 2010 the rear parking assist lights just stayed red. I took it back and on the connection (left side) was not plugged completely in. Once is was connected it worked fine. Just a thought.

I do have a hitch receiver, but the connection appears to the tight and out of the way.

I've check around, haven't seen any info on the "care and preventative maintenance" of the sensors. Anyone have these things fail?
