2004 Touareg V8, 82xxx miles, original owner. Recently developed "check lights" signal on MFI. Sure enough, driver's side bixenon headlight didn't work. Fuses all OK. Checked this forum, noted years and miles, figured dead bulb, so I replaced both driver and passenger-side bulbs. Driver's side light still didn't work. Checked this forum again, changed apparently good fuse with apparently good and new fuse, and the headlight worked. Problem solved (or so I thought)> now the high beams don't work, the ESP indicator stays illuminated in the dash display, the wipers don't work and the turn signals don't work!

Checked all the fuses on both fuse panels related to lights, wipers and ESP and they all are OK. Tried swapping new for old fuses-still doesn't work. Tried replacing everything back to the way it was originally, and that still didn't fix the problem (and, interestingly, the old "dead bulb" actually works now!!).

I don't have VAG-COM, and don't really trust my dealer service department very much (for one, there aren't that many Touaregs sold through my local delaership, and when I've had problems they've not been very helpful or open-minded.)

Has any one had this experience? (I searched and didn't see anything like this reported). Recommendations?

Does this vehical have the original battery in it? If so, change it out to a new one. Bad batteries in Tregs tend to cause all sorts of weird electrical issues. It is sensitive to low voltage.

Thanks for the suggestion. I also replaced the dying battery 2-3 months ago (and you're right; I was getting strange warning signals so I swapped the battery for a new one). I had assumed that had fixed the problem, and this new battery certainly seems fine (in terms of cold-starting, etc.). So what are the chances that I have a 2nd bad battery (the first one died within a year and was replaced under warranty-NAPA is the vendor)? Maybe I could attach a charger for a few hours and see if the electrical issues disappear (or if that fails, borrow my Porsche battery and put in for a few hours)? Probably worth trying.
