I have a 2015 Touareg TDI executive with 150000 miles ,My check engine light is on and is not going off. It is showing codes P246E and U012600.Does anyone here have any experience with these codes ? How serious is it and what fixing the problem would cost or entail? Please any guidance is greatly appreciated.

I took it to auto zone and it was a ,Obd11 ,ODB 11 sorry I always screw that up..The codes that came up were P246E,P072100,U012600 AND U112200. I would have taken it elsewhere but im in a small town and everything is 30 miles or more and im leary to drive until I have an ideal what im up against. And to answer your question no I received no additional info.I looked up the codes last night and tried to read as much as I could to get an idea.As I stated early I live in a small town and trust no one to work on my car .I usually drive back home to Las vegas and have found a trustworthy and qualified shop with educated techs.( I've been burned by VW dealership and ended up with more problems and unresolved issues .

Unfortunately on something this modern and complex you need to know what you're dealing with. A proper scanner like VCDS or similar, and knowledge of how to use it, can point you in the right direction. But when someone scans it with whatever and doesn't know what they are doing, you get little to no info.

UNDERSTOOD,do you think it would be lucrative for me to purchase A vcds ? And if so is there a particular one you could suggest ? I appreciate any guidance you can give me

It probably would, but once again, you're blind... Don't really know how serious of a thing you have going on, and once you get to whatever town, the shop can tell you whatever and you just need to trust them. I would not own any modern VAG without VCDS.

Unfortunately thats the issue is finding someone in this area ( because ford and Cummings diesels are not the same as VW TDIS) .Allow me to ask you one more question if I am to find a reputable or decent place just for diagnostic purpose what do I jeed to know ? Should they be using a certain type of scanner ? ( is that the correct verbiage for what its called ?) And what should be a general charge for it so im not taken advantage of ..( they see
me coming a mile away .) I just like to be prepared and to educate myself so im not brushed off as if ive gor the brain capacity of a bubble.

You need to get a Ross-Tech VCDS diagnostic scanning cable. It interfaces with windows PC and uses software that you download direct to the PC from the Ross-Tech site. The cost about the same a paying a shop for a diagnostic scan. just make sure you buy the genuine article direct from Ross-tech in the USA or one of their distributors. This will give as good if not better diagnosis as the factory ODIS system that dealer use. Once you have the scan then you can post it here or on the Ross-tech web site for help in analysis and to determine the best approach for fixes.

Most shops unless they are VW specialists will have generic scanners with variable levels of ability to analyse VW specific problems

do you have towing on your car insurance or have AAA? They generally will do a flatbed tow to the closest repair facility.
The issue isn't getting my car there its where to take it thats a reliable and competent Vw TDI TECH .I normally drive back to Las vegas for all my service and oil changes @ Cars NV because they're reliable and trusted unlike the Findlay dealership. When im in the 4 corners area im at a loss, right now in in the Durango colorado area. 😑 Trying to look up someone who could atleast use the correct tools for a diagnostic not a generic one.

Can you afford to spend $200 on your own diagnostic scanner so that you're not blind?
Or are you more comfortable rolling the dice on whatever issue you might have, driving the required distance\time to LV to potentially end up with very costly repairs due to prolonging the "delay" in getting whatever has failed sorted out?

You can take it to the dealer. They have all the tools, and have direct connection to the factory specialist. That's where I would take it if i wasn't doing it myself. They are not perfect, but at least they have the resources. Tow it to the nearest dealer.

Is that a trick question? :geek: I sir would gladly invest 200.00 or even 500.00 for my own scanner it being the one that is appropriate and will end up being an asset .I have been calling around for diagnostic and asking questions and pricing so far no luck. If you don't ask the appropriate questions you get the run of the mill generic lure you in answer. The last person I was referred to got so irritated with me when I asked specific questions as to what scanner they used and what they charged (500.00) and at that I was miffed, I simply replied "the dealership doesn't even charge that? I think he blew a head gasket his voice rose to a steamy rumbling response of were not the place for you ....WERE NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU !!.CLICK...Absolutely I will afford $ 200.00! POINT me in the appropriate direction, the more i can learn and educate myself the less I leave myself open to vulnerability and ignorance.
