I have a 2005 Touareg V6 with standard factory 17'' wheels. I wanted to upgrade to a 19'' or 20'' wheel/rim. Is there anything that I should be aware of when doing this?

Are those too big/heavy for a V6?

I know the standard tire on my VW is 255. Could I upgrade to a 265 so the tires look bigger?

Hope these are not too dumb of questions, but any help is appreciated. Thanks a lot!

The answer is yes, you can upgrade. Because you have the V6 I wouldnt recommend going over an 18" wheel setup with factory tire sizes, you might be able to step up a size and keep your 17" wheels but not bigger tires and rims, it will make your car sluggish.

This is just my opinion and what I would look at in your case, I like the way my 18" manhattans look and I know that people with V6's have upgraded to these.

I originally had 19" wheels with P Zeros on my 2004 V-8. I really disliked the ride and handling characteristics, and did a three way swap for 18" Manhattans with Pirelli Scorpions, which I recently replaced with General Grabber UHPs. The current set up is a perfect complement to the overall balance of the Touareg. The wear on the P Zeros is scary, and they are darty. I use dedicated snow tires during the winter -- Pirelli Ice & Snows on 18" AT Italia wheels.

For the low profile go cart handling, I just switch to the other side of the garage and my '07 Boxster S on 19" rubber and Porsche Active Suspension.

I have 22" wheels on my Touareg and the ride/handling is just fine. I was going to say that possibly the roads here are in good shape, but thinking about it, I know they are not. The ones closest to my home look like parts of London/Berlin after WWII.

I like the ride of the 22" wheels much better than the stock 18" wheels I had. With the 18" wheels, I felt like I was driving a boat.
